Was having a lovely day out with the wife until we got here.

They offer a cocktail called the Bloody Maggie, very similar to the Mary but it is advertised to also come with a Port float. The cocktail was made and put in front of me but I'd seen it made and there was no port float. I asked and was told they didn't have any Port.

And this is where it gets weird.

I said that's OK, I'll just take another shot of vodka. At this point the lady stormed off muttering that she'd check in the back of they had any Port. Came back and said no, they didn't have any. I repeated that is be happy with another shot of vodka to make up the shortfall for what I'd paid for only to be told that would be illegal (it isn't AFAIK). Then said that she'd give me a new drink if I wasn't happy and at this point I said yes, I'll have a pint of Guinness.

Even weirder now..

She refunds me the money for the cocktail and gives me my Guinness. I offer to pay for the Guinness but she won't take it (this is appreciated) but did seem to contradict the illegal statement earlier.

We drank...

Our recent visit to Maggie Dickinson pub in Edinburgh was a complete letdown. The food, to put it bluntly, was a disaster for us. We had the impression as if each dish would have been dunked in a vat of oil, leaving them swimming in a greasy mess. Not only that, but for our taste, everything arrived at our table stone cold, as if it had been forgotten in the back corner of the kitchen. It was a dining experience we would rather forget, and one we wouldn't wish upon anyone else. We would suggest that you save yourself the same disappointment than us and find another spot to dine in Edinburgh. I know that we will receive and apology saying that they will pass on the message to the kitchen as if the kitchen was an alien independent entity. So a completely useless excuse which they use for all complaints.

PS . It is sad to see that efforts are invested in fantasize about events that did not happen. As you can see we have rated the service highly, but the meal was really disgusting for us. Good luck to all those going there...

My wife and I went in to reserve a table for dinner on our last night in Edinburgh, and although they normally don’t take reservations the day of the reservation, they made an exception for us. We got (what we think) was the best table for two we’ve ever had!

The food was great. I had the Flat Iron Steak and Chips. I was expecting it to be somewhat tough, but it wasn’t. The sauce was subtle, but added some great flavor to the already flavorful steak. My wife had the Cullen Skink, and it was a delicious smokey flavor to it. The cream base was so rich!

The service was top notch. Our server was Alys (she’s the one who held the table for us!), and she was running all over, despite being there all day long. The place was busy, so we thought it might take some time to get the food, but it was quite quick!

The manager (Colin) spoke to us for a good amount of time. He was so friendly and informative. We shared our views of the culinary delights of Scotland.

I would highly recommend eating here at least once when you’re...

Such an experience trying out the Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties dish – and I must say, it exceeded all expectations! 😍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The flavors were a harmonious blend of tradition. For those unfamiliar, Haggis is a renowned Scottish creation, reminiscent in texture to black pudding. Crafted from sheep's offal, spices, onions, and suet, it's a culinary masterpiece that's evolved over time. While traditionally cooked in an animal's stomach, modern versions feature casings. The pairing with creamy mashed potatoes (tatties) and smooth mashed turnips (neeps) was a match made in heaven. 🥔🍽️ This experience has truly left an impression, and I'm now a fan of this iconic Scottish delight! 🌟👏

My great friend Maggie Dickson asked me to come to her house so naturally I googled “Maggie Dicksons” to find my way there. She lives in a town called Edinburgh of the Seven Seas in Tristan da Cunha so I was very surprised to find I could just get here in a 4 hour train journey from London - a far cry from the 8 day boat journey she told me about. I called her when I arrived as I bought her a pint, annoyingly she wasn’t here and was still in the central Atlantic Ocean - but I did enjoy the beers and will be back here again. Maggie if you’re reading this please come and find this pub in Edinburgh (not of the 7 seas) - it’s very convivial. I’ll be back
