My partner and I recently been there for my first time visiting Edinburgh and to celebrate my birthday. We chosen this restaurant for our first night dinner in Edinburgh.
My partner has booked the table in advance over 2 weeks at 20.00 pm before ours holidays in Edinburgh as he has read the good positive reviews of this restaurant and would like to surprise me with a good seafood restaurant for my birthday dinner.
Negative: But unfortunately, we got the worst table in the restaurant even though we booked in advance for 2 weeks right in front of the toilet rooms on the 2nd floor and I mean just in front of the toilet where you sitting and see people walking in and out after using the toilet :( Plus the toilet was not clean and smells and no toilet paper as the pictures My partner sacrificed to sit on a chair next to the post, near the stairs and facing the toilet, while my chair was against the toilet wall I had to sit there in front of the toilet rooms and smell We were uncomfortable sitting there during ours dinner meal but we didn’t want to ruin ours dinner night and wished they might have offered us and move to the better table spot after we have ordered 3 meals, 12 of fresh oysters and 2 main course, 2 glasses of champagne and a bottle of white wine which cost about £194.xx in total. Honestly I would just wished they could afford and ask us to move to better table spot than that ONE! Eventually we have to asked the staff ourselves if we could move to other table:(
As a seafood lover myself from my point of view the fresh oyster was not what I expected, it’s not fresh as I thought and smells quite stinky which we couldn’t eat everything and left 2 of them
Positive: About the main course food was lovely
But the table in front of the toilet, no way we would go back there again if we have book the table in advance and have...
Read moreExcellent seafood. We were tired the evening we arrived in Edinburgh. Luckily our rented apartment was just a five minute walk from here. When we arrived there was a line of three parties ahead of us but the party in front of us had eaten here the evening before and came back for more (!), so we stuck it out.
It was a packed house and reservations were also coming in, so we ended up sharing a larger table with the returning party. They both had the sea bass which looked wonderful. We had steak, oysters and mussels with garlic and wine. They were all delicious! Seafood is one of our favorites and the mussels are the best I have ever had. The service was efficient for the crowd. Excellent selection of wine and spirits as well.
We made reservations for the next evening on our way out (there was still a line of people waiting). The following evening our reservations were early and we sat on the second floor, which we didn't even realize existed the night before. We ordered salmon, chili lime mussels and a steamed seafood platter. Service and food were excellent.
Things to consider: this place is not Red Lobster or a chain or inexpensive. We liked the quality of the food and I felt it reflected the price. The seafood shines. Our entrees were not over salted, over seasoned or drowned in sauces. Expect to16 to 21 English pounds for general entrees - more for lobster or steak. This is a casual place, without an overly fake fancy feel and we loved the food, so would eat here again.

Read moreArrived just as they opened for dinner service. Given a complimentary fresh oyster to try, which was delicious. Ordered the chilli ribs surf and turf with a side salad. The original waiter who served me was very attentive and gave his recommendations of sauce pairing with the mussels I chose chilli and garlic. The ribs were divine, crispy outer layer with just enough bite and tender on the inside. It paired very well with the light refreshing side salad. The mussels were a miss for me. The texture was soft and delicate but lacked flavour the broth didn't add anything to the dish. The one large prawn was the star of the show. Juicy sweet and full of flavour. I would happily have a half bucket of the prawns accompanying the ribs instead of the mussels unfortunately. I ordered the skinny Bailey's cheesecake which was light and fluffy not enough baileys for me and the fruit compote/coolie wasn't particularly sweet it wouldn't of been missed . Overall the food was good. The service on the other hand didn't exist. My original server disappeared after he gave me my dessert. A young lady cleared my plate after 10 minutes and I sat waiting for 25 minutes I had to ask for my bill. There was no attention to detail. Two of the managers stood by the bar/till discussing issues with reviews rather acknowledging the the current customers they had. The family sitting next to me were also waiting for a long period of time for their table to be cleared then additional time just to order their desserts....
