Extremely expensive. Me and my wife had booked for the floral mannequins exhibition. Afterwards we were very hungry, so went to the cafe there. I was appalled at the ripoff prices there. Over £4 for a bit of cake, bits of pizza even more expensive. I noticed that cream teas were £17 per person, for that, probably a scone, bit of butter and jam and probably a cake or two and a cup of tea. We decided against it on principle, and just had a pot of Tea and a coffee at an eye watering price of £6.25.
We drank up and left, and went to Ocean Terminal and found a wonderful Chinese restaurant and I had Kung Po chicken, rice and cashew nuts, and my wife had a mushroom omelette and coffee, all for £14.95. A huge portion of food too.
It just goes to show that the Botanic Garden cafes are a money grabbing greedy lot and in it for the profit. Huh ! £2.90 for a tea bag and a bit of hot water
Teas and coffees in McDonalds and Greggs are around £1.10, that's better.
And added insult to injury, someone near the main gate with a card machine, trying to get people to donate £10 for the running of the place. Just not fair when you are a pensioner.

Read moreGood for tea and cakes. Warm food is slightly overpriced for what you get in terms of quantity and quality. It was a busy time which makes it challenging to cater for clients needs but I would still expect tables to be wiped clean, the full range of cutlery to be available and staff to communicate efficiently. Service was slow even though there was plenty of staff. It was hectic, I was waiting for a coffee and mistakenly took someone else's coffee which had been put in front of me. Rather than listening to feedback about the incident, the waiter was slightly confrontational before apologising, missing the point that my comment wasn't aiming for fault finding but rather to support improving the service. This is a trait that seems more prevalent in young people nowadays, technologically savy but lacking in real life communication skills. Acoustics maddening, total cacophony even when moderately busy. Free wifi available. I won't be returning to the...
Read moreEnjoyed a short visit for scones and tea. Very tasty and nicely crumbly scones, clearly freshly baked this morning. Quality teas and decent sized ceramic teapots. Staff friendly and seemed genuinely interested in our thoughts on the food and surroundings. Gave feedback on the scones to the newly appointed Head Baker and he was genuinely appreciative of our compliments and looks to be very committed to drive for the best quality food at the cafe. Referring to prior review on the supposedly annoying paging system....my take on that is that is an effective, efficient and saves a wait in a queue for drinks. The pager noise can be silenced immediately by pressing an obvious button...
