My partner and I visited here for our first round of drinks for the evening after a great day of activities, celebrating our anniversary.
After clearing our own table of lots of empty glasses that had been sitting for a while, left by a previous larger group, and bringing them to the bar ourselves (not even a slight acknowledgment of anyone at the bar who were all chatting amongst themselves), the service at the bar felt awkward and unwelcoming.
The person serving us (not going to name names publicly) was uninterested, blunt and unwelcoming from the get go. No effort to build any kind of rapport, let alone simply being friendly. Worth noting the bar wasn’t busy either.
After asking for proof of ID from us both (understandable), we were slightly agitated when asked again for our IDs not even 10 minutes later, by the same individual, both times making one of us go back to our table to ask the other to come to the bar, leaving our belongings unattended.
After a brief, admittedly agitated comment addressing it was the 2nd time we had been asked, the AGM involved herself confrontationally to escalate the situation, exclaiming that they wouldn’t recognise us if we had been served by someone else. After clarifying it was the same individual not long ago, said individual while looking at my ID, frowned, shrugged, and tossed my ID back at me into my hands.
Keeping my nerve and calmly asking them not to throw my ID at me, I returned to our seats before things escalated further. My partner returned with our drinks, noting that the AGM had cut me off and would refuse to serve drinks to me. Laughable as though we’d be sticking around past our drinks for more of their excellent hospitality.
I’m not surprised to see 2x 1* reviews in addition to this one from the past week alone for this establishment, if this is the team running it....
Read moreThe Tron is very popular destination with students and young people in the Old Town. It is reasonably priced, has three different bars and always has a lively crowd.
Be sure to take you ID as the door staff take care to check everybody who comes in and its better not to be disappointed when you arrive and are turned away.
The prices are cheap compared to more up-market establishments as you would expect from a place popular with the large local student crowd. The selection of beers is limited to the most popular brands and as its a chain establishment you will be well used to the drinks on offer.
The juke box is as you would expect full of 90s tunes and they get a regular airing. When they show football matches they will often open the bottom bar and put up the big screen projector which makes for an excellent atmosphere especially if you are with a few friends.
The food is not amazing, they are well known for their 'Scream burgers' but if you are going out to eat then there are similar but better alternatives locally. If you want to have a drink and meet some new people though the Tron is a good place to start...
