Do !NOT! go here if you are GF. Myself and my partner came for breakfast this morning as we were looking for a new place to go and I saw online that they have lots of gluten free options. Came in for a table for 2 and I immediately asked when I came in that I have a Gluten allergy and asked what gluten free options they offer. Got served by a lady with red hair who was very helpful and explained me through all of the gluten free options they offer. Myself and my partner both order the full breakfast, mine made gluten free and his regular. They both came out by a different server not long after and looked completely identical. Mine had on it Haggis, Black Pudding, Potato Scone and Sausages which most of the time all have gluten in them. Sausages are very easy to get gluten free but it is extremely rare that you get Haggis, Black Pudding and Potato Scone gluten free. I asked the man if they are definitely gluten free as I have an allergy and just asked him to double check. He went to the kitchen and came back and said the potato scone has gluten, just took it off with his hands, and then said it’s fine now. I said to him to please double check if the haggis and black pudding are gluten free and to please have a new plate or order something else as the potato scone was right on top in the middle of the plate so had been touching everything else. He took the potato scone away and said that the haggis package doesn’t say so it should be fine. I asked for a replacement without the scone haggis and black pudding and he said that my current plate I had should be fine because he took the scone off. At this point I didn’t feel safe eating here at all so I just asked to cancel my order and went somewhere else. My partners regular breakfast was great but 100% won’t be back with me telling them I have a gluten allergy and them giving me gluten, and just picking stuff off the plate with...

I ordered Exotic Pancakes - with Nutella, mango, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries and passion fruit. Instead I got pancakes with banana, kiwi and chocolate sauce (no, not Nutella).

When I asked a waitress about the difference, she said there is no difference between what I got and what is in the menu. So I showed her the menu and she just shrugged. I was not happy, so she asked another waiter to intervene. I explained again, and he said that they're short on mango, yes, sorry. I asked about Nutella, strawberries, raspberries and passion fruit and then he said: ah, yes, we don't serve them either.

Ok. Then another person came, I guess the owner, to say they're sorry that one ingridient is missing. So I explain AGAIN that it's not about one ingridient. And so I was told they serve the pancakes with what fruits they have and not exactly with what they say they would serve in the menu, that the menu is just an inspiration.

Before we got this sorted my partner's breakfast got cold, as well as our coffees.

At the end, I was charged for the pancakes and only when I raised my obiections that it's not fair, I got my money back but not without comments that it's not their fault they didn't have the specific fruits and it's not their regular policy to refund for such small differences.

Guys, just update your menu and inform your customers about any changes if they appear.

I won't come back, very disappointing experience.

And no, chocolate sauce is not the same...

Used to come here on occasion, but after today's trip, I won't be in a rush to go back. Arrived through the door and while the staff behind the counter seen me, they just ignored me. After a few minutes we just sat ourselves down (previously we have always been offered) and after waiting a few more minutes, again with staff behind the counter watching us, we had to get our own menu. So a good 5 mins passed and no one came over to take a our order, so had to go over to the counter to order. Its worth mentioning there there wasn't many folk in the place sitting down. So it's not like they were overrun Order taken at the counter, and food came quite quickly, although we got our food first and our Lattè about 5 mins later. What was frustrating was, another couple came in and where actually Acknowledged, then were seated and the same staff who ignored us came and took there order.

Was really Dissapointed by the way we were treated. We helped were we could by supporting this place during Tramworks, Covid etc and the attitude of the staff stunk, and I won't be in a...

A beautiful blend of Turkish warmth and Edinburgh charm! We had such a lovely breakfast at Rock Salt Café—easily one of the best meals we’ve had during our time in Edinburgh. We ordered both the Turkish and British breakfast, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The Turkish breakfast in particular brought a real taste of home for me—so comforting and authentic. The latte and cappuccino were also spot on, made with care and really hit the spot. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting—perfect for a slow, relaxing morning. It’s clear they put heart into everything they do. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh—this place deserves way more love on the map!

Great lunch options, with plenty to choose from. The menu offers a good range of dishes, with something for everyone, and the quality of the food is generally very good. However, one area where the restaurant falls short is its desserts - they tend to be on the heavy side, which can be a bit overwhelming after a meal. While Rock Salt Cafe used to be a go-to spot for dining in, these days I only consider it for take-away, as the interior urgently needs an update. The decor is worn-out, which is a shame, as it detracts from the otherwise pleasant experience. That being said, the take-away option is still a good choice, as the food quality remains consistent and the service is friendly.
