I spend a lot of time in Edinburgh, but on this layover I decided to join friends for a walk to Leith in search of a quieter pub with ALL the atmosphere. Malone's definitely delivered! Service was excellent. So friendly! There was a variety of televised sports, none of which was of interest to me personally, but others were certainly enjoying them. Food was super! Far better than food in any average pub. More reasonably priced than what we'd get near the Royal Mile where we stay, too. There was an available table large enough to very comfortably accommodate our group. Laid back, cozy.... A great way to spend a couple hours eating, drinking, and chatting. Plenty of craic to be found here!

Third time visiting the new Malone's Leith. I really like the refurbishment with lots of sports and decent beers. The staff are friendly and chill. Decided to try food this time (Tuesday evening) and frustratingly this was a bit of a let down flavours and portions were good but, the menu was different to the website. Online it was described as being curated by an experienced Micheline kitchen chef so my expectations were high. The Irish stew was thin in consistency with bone still remaining, champ was cold with a microwaved texture, bread was more crisp bread than soft sliced/wedge. Mac&cheese fries were good though, a very generous portion.

Malones is a loosely themed Irish bar in Leith. It's relatively large and has TV screens dotted about so it's good for sports. It also has live music but not on my visit.  It has some interesting graffiti/murals on the walls leading to the toilets. It has a good selection of beers and the Guinness is supposedly very good. The gastropub food is good and the quantities are generous  - the bowls of side chips are huge! Service is good and friendly.

Great decor, layout and selection.

Have visited several times. Some of the staff can only be described as “passengers”

Stood at bar waiting 5 mins to be served, two staff through the back end of bar having a good chinwag and cans of juice. Barmaid who was waiting tables (Kiwi girl) came over, apologised then served, it was this barmaid who continued to serve us for the rest of our night there. While all the others seem to be glued to the dishwasher area of the bar, behind a pillar, like the barstaff social club.

Another time, tall girl behind bar, I’m assuming she’s there for decor only. For the 3 hours I was in, I never seen her actually serve a customer.

Great place, but definitely need to crack the whip with staff who don’t pull their weight; if i as a humble customer can see the slacking, so will...

Came to watch rugby. Despite having it on on four screens there was no sound and we had to put up with the soccer bleeding in from the next area. Was told they had run out of Tennants to be later told it was back on (so they hadn't really run out, just hadn't changed the tank - I wouldn't have spent nine pounds on a glass of wine if I could have got a pint of Tennants in a few minutes). Ordered some food from the snacks menu which was full of spelling errors and poor formatting. Food arrived, but was not mine and was for a different table. Eventually, my "dirty fries" arrived. The haggis was cold and the peppercorn sauce was barely evident. After asking three times, the commentary was still not on the tele. I won't be going back. And I won't be going to their sister pub in Haymarket again...

I come once a week and always have such a blast! The regulars are usually such a great crowd who are always up for a chat, the food that I've tried has been super tasty, and the staff are fantastic!!! Taighe, Fiona, Leonie and Alice are who I see most often and have always been super welcoming and happy to help with anything. Had a few moments as you do in any bar where people can be a bit too drunk or out of hand. The staff are always super on it and I've never felt unsafe. The environment always feels clean and comfy. Plus, free nachos with any Quiz Monday booking is such a fab deal, especially since the quiz is free to join! For only having been in Leith for a year, it feels like it would be...
