We visited this place, because we were really hungry. However, after visit I would have rather prefered to stay hungry. The lamb kebab, which I ordered was badly cook, the meat was not tender at all, but even worse was a waiter. I was quite cold and asked if the window could be closed, but the waiter said no. Also I wanted to order an extra butter, which was not possible without any explanation either. While we were eating, he came to show to my husband how he should properly eat Indian food touching his cutlery and plates, which was not his business at all. Cherry on the top was that he charged 10 % service fee without even telling us, which has not happened to us in any other place in Edinburgh. Please do not visit this place, rather choose some nice British restaurant where they will treat you well.

Don't dare to go to this place for Thai cuisine , it will be waste of money, time and effort. It's just an Indian restaurant serving Indian cuisine and Indianised version of Oriental cuisine. The most shocker for me was they don't have jasmine rice in their menu and they call themselves as Thai restaurant. Prices are too expensive, just 100 metres from the place, you will find much better thai place servicing authentic cuisine with much economical prices. The service was late and they got the Thai green curry to the table without any rice. I mean who in this world will eat the green curry without any rice, as if it's a soup. Can't comment on the indian food here, but definitely not a place that I am going to repeat. The only good thing about the dinner was the Singha beer from Thailand.

For simplicity of rating, the food was bad. It's not Indian for sure!! The food was very greasy and colored, we had ordered the mix platter for starters, it had one ready to cook spring roll, one ready to cook samosa and one piece of grilled meats. Everything was tasteless and oily and infact the mutton was chewy and stretchy, you cannot tear it with hand for sure. The naan was yellow in color, and one can taste the raw turmeric flavour, which was such a let down. We somehow finished the food, coz we don't like wasting food. Folks, if you want a decent Indian restaurant, please head to Gurkha, just up the road from Shamoli and take the 2nd right down the road.

Wow...never in my life have I experienced such an awful service. I ordered beef noodles, which had no noodles and the beef was so chewy that I couldn't even eat it. My friend also complained about her lemonade being flat, they then gave her another flat lemonade, which we sent back. They then offered a coke which never turned up, yet they still tried to charge her for it. We also asked for recommendations, the unenthusiastic staff just shrugged. We also waited for about 40 mins for our food to arrive. Our main meal was taken away, we then waited for around 20 mins for either a dessert menu or bill to arrive which didn't, so we decided to leave and pay at the counter. The man who we believe was the manager was unapologetic. We said we weren't happy to pay for the service charge as we weren't happy with the service, and explained why, to which he became angry, had a go at us, pointed at us talking to his colleagues in another language so we couldn't understand what he was saying (it was obvious he wasn't praising us.) Anyway in a nutshell, avoid this place...

If you go to this restaurant do so at your own peril. No one here cares what you order and what is served to you. My wife is a pure vegetarian as per her religious beliefs , jainism. We ordered vegetarian Tom Kah soup and instead were served Chicken soup, when we called them over to tell them true huge mistake they were not even apologetic about it. They were trying to pass the blame between the one who took the order and the cook. After discussions it was replaced with vegetarian soup. Also ordered chicken Bhuna which was tasteless. And the chicken was not even properly cooked. The keema nan was for name sake as it didn’t have keema in it and was uncooked. There was no point discussing anything with the staff there so we quietly ate paid and left. Moreover tourist don’t have a say anyway. But I would once again caution you on eating there, di so on your own peril. Oh just to mention in the end that I spite of the major mistake they committed of serving chicken instead of vegetarian they invoiced us for chicken and...

My visit to Shamoli in Edinburgh left me thoroughly disappointed. As a food enthusiast with a penchant for Indian and Thai cuisine, I had high hopes for this restaurant, but sadly, it fell short in many ways.

Firstly, the food was a letdown. The Indian and Thai dishes lacked the authentic flavors and quality I expected. The curries were overly greasy, and the spices seemed off-balance. It was far from the delicious experience I've had at other restaurants.

Service was another issue. The staff appeared disinterested and inattentive. We had to wait quite a while for our orders to be taken, and it took even longer for the food to arrive.

The ambiance was also subpar. The restaurant felt cramped, and the lighting was dim, making it hard to enjoy the meal. The noise level was surprisingly high, and it didn't contribute to a pleasant dining atmosphere.

Shamoli was a letdown, especially for someone who appreciates good Indian...
