We were at the Edinburgh Fringe festival on Saturday evening and came across Solti and read some great reviews.
It's run by a father (Shovakhar) and son (Khima) duo and they bring a delicious mix of Nepalese & Indian fusion food to the bustling Drummond Street in the Old Town. They've lived in Scotland for quite a while but are originally from Nepal.
We sat outside as it was dry and bustling with throngs of festival goers and it was a great people watch and to soak in the crazy atmosphere only found during August in Edinburgh.
The service was brilliant, polite and thoughtful. Khima looked after me really well and I managed to get a table outside. I would however recommend reserving a table here ordinarily because a queue formed after 6pm and they were super busy.
Food wise, I enjoyed poppadoms and a starter followed by a delicious butter chicken (although I should have asked for more chilli). The pilau rice was great as was the Nann bread.
Sadly I forgot to take a picture of the food (dumb right 👍). It was served beautifully in great pots and tins.
A good wine & cocktail selection here too.

Read moreFirst time visitor in Edinburgh and our first meal needed to be indian cuisine because I have always heard a lot of good things about the Indian restaurants in Great Britain.
We found Solti through trip advisor and reddit and wanted to try.
A little place where we were lucky to get a table, but I could see that booking would be preferable if you consider trying it - there were a lot of people all the time.
We tried their papadom and lamb Rogan Josh and chicken jal frezi with rice garlic / coriander naan and truffle naan 🫓.
And oh my god .. it has been a long time since I have gotten a indian meal like that. Far better than anything I have tried in Denmark.
Nice and spicy, lot of different spices , lot of flavor, perfect texture, and the naan was just the best. Loved everything.
We drank a cobra beer and the bartenders favorite cocktail and you also need to try their cocktail 🍸🍹- it works.
We ate so much that we needed to go for a work afterwards and home to bed to sleep early, but even so - I didn't regret it one bit .. thankyou for a...
Read moreUpdate: Just read a very defensive and accusatory response from the so called Manager of Solti. He should familiarise himself with how to deal with a black hair in a customers food. This restaurant failed on all counts. Anyone who gets this defensive obviously has something(s) to hide. Inspections are perhaps overdue. To the young lady who you claim we upset. This is so sad we only asked her to take our food away as there was a black hair in it. Maybe your aggressive, defensive response is what has upset her.
Booked a table for Friday night. Surprisingly so quiet when we arrived. Ordered drinks whilst considering the menu. A trip to the toilet left me feeling nauseated the kitchen was dirty. The staff were nit clean. The starters arrived and had to be returned. The response to our concerns surprised us so we opted to pay for drinks and leave. No apology offered. Not sure why this has so any positive reviews it was absolutely disgusting on so many fronts....
