I am not sure how I have passed and not properly noticed Spitaki? It looks superbly vibrant and welcoming with its bright Mediterranean blue and white decor. We were invited by friends to have early dinner and what a wonderful experience. The restaurant is spacious but has a family and relaxed fee, with lots of couples and also some families dining. The staff are super friendly and as authentic as the food. We were a group of six (adults and young people) so we shared lots of dishes from the Meze. The dishes were fresh, tasty, wonderfully fragrant and cooked perfectly. Everything we tried was delicious. Highlights (amongst many) were the grilled octopus that was beautifully grill-flavoured and tender and likewise the kalamari - also tender with a light batter coating, the souvlaki was really well grilled and succulent and the bifteki was huge with a lovely hint of garlic. A baked feta dish called Bougiourti was just knockout with pitta bread. We also shared some of the larger dishes of moussaka and a plate of gigantes which were wholesome and had an authentic homely taste. I know I am recommending almost everything, but it really was that good. Actually, I can’t comment on the wine, because i drank ouzo. Wine for next time. Thanks to everyone at Spitaki... Great restaurant with a great feel... We will...

Ordered mothers day treat - £50 worth of food for three. Will attach picture of complete meal at the end (fitted on one regular dinner plate). Not only was the quantity completely lacking, the overall quality was dreadful. The saganaki was like concrete one struggled to cut through. The octopus was one tentacle. The calamari had six small rounds and was soggy and tasteless. The pork souvalaki was tough and had no flavour and the chicken souvalaki was dry as dry could be. The bougiourti tasted as though the cheese was fermenting and was very sharp and unpleasant tasting. Very very disappointing as we have eaten at this restaurant pre-covid numerous times and it was always excellent and generous portions. In addition, at 0815 this morning (Sunday) we were awakened by an automated telephone call informing us that our order pick up time had changed to 1900. Thank you for informing us but not appropriate at 0815 on a...

Claire & Christoph of Spitaki in The New Town, Edinburgh. Where to beign? Eh, two nice people you rarely shall meet. Happy comforting knowledgable proffesionals running a family business with fair prices, authentic food and enthusiastic charming staff. They specialise in Greek cuisine and have turned this once struggling wattering hole in to a wonderful place to visit. Seriously, whenever you are near Waverly take the ten/ fifteen minute walk down (or jump on a No. 8 Lothian Bus) and pop in. I've never had to wait for a table but there is usually the option of sitting outside - weather permitting.

They can cater for any number of group bookings and promptly serve great wine at reasonable prices whilst you perouse the menu. The menu itself is by no means daunting, however the staff recommendations are worth listening too. It seems to be near always busy, so book ahead to avoid dissapointment folks! ...

Wonderful independent restaurant serving up the best Greek food in Edinburgh. A short walk from the city centre, Spitaki offers authentic Greek fayre at a reasonable price. We enjoyed cheese saganaki, which was essentially fried feta and it was delicious. Smoky aubergine dip and a Greek salad - both fresh and bursting with flavour. The meat keftedes were a generous portion with a pleasing chargrilled note to them, while the chicken souvlaki were succulent and cooked with care. The flatbreads were a real highlight: pillowy soft and very moorish, ideal for dunking into the dips and picking up the meat elements. Service was very pleasant and you could tell care went into everything.

A cosy restaurant with a taverna vibe. It's small, cute and offers a nice selection of well priced sharing plates. There are Greek classics like fried cheese and tzatziki. The food is tasty and captures some of that delicious Greek cuisine. It's a shame they don't do gyros. The interior design definitely adds to the taverna fill with blue and white colour palette. Although each plate is around £4 to £6, to fill yourself the average price per person is around £15 to £20. We gave 4 stars because the some of the staff were aloof and cold. Overall, it's safe, comforting food without too much fuss or detail in the local area.
