The Powder Room Bar — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

The Powder Room — a pun on the nearby Powderhall district — is potentially a cute place for date. They make pizza on the premises, serve cocktails, and sometimes have some decent live music. The downside is it’s not really for beer drinkers, in spite of best attempts and claims to the contrary — unless you are a fan of Pilot beer (They also have Guinness and Tennents lager on tap but that’s about it). I tried a couple of the Pilot draughts on offer but ended up going to nearby O’Connors, which serves proper beer. I understand the venue has problems with a cellar that make cask-conditioned beers rather challenging. The Pilot stuff is also exorbitantly priced. Formerly the Hare of the Dog, the Powder Room is a fine wee bar. Lined with wood, lovely old stone walls sometimes visible the pub has old world charm with modern standards.

The friendly bar stocks local beer and lager, especially from nearby Pilot. There's a collection of spirits as well but this is no cocktail lounge.

There are snacks to munch and a history of popular pub quizzes from the days of the Dog.

Tables are good for couples up to groups of about half a dozen. It's an after work relax and unwind watering hole off the tourist paths...

The Powder Room is an absolute gem of Edinburgh. Not only are the staff incredibly friendly, they really care about the community. They’re always hosting local/seasonal events like pumpkin carving during Halloween or Valentines love song sing-alongs. They have weekly jam sessions which are an absolute blast and bring in talented musicians. Their pub quizzes are so much fun too! The pub itself is super cosy and feels like a warm hug whenever I enter. I highly recommend this...
