I really didn’t want to leave this place a bad review but, unfortunately, after our dinner last night my partner and I are experiencing really bad nausea and stomach upset. I was so looking forward to eating here but unfortunately it didn’t meet our expectations and has possibly made us ill.
We had been saving up to eat here for a month and I’m honestly disappointed with our experience. Our mains were good, but I honestly don’t think it justified the prices - which seemed to be inflated for Vday compared to some of the other menus I’ve seen on the reviews.
The main point, it felt like we were being served the worst parts of the meals they prepared. For example, my partner got the fish dish of the night and so did the couple next to us. We noticed that while my partner was picking out bones and having to scrape at his fish, the couple next to us had no bones and left a clean plate. In addition, the apple tart slice we were served tasted extremely burnt and bitter. I wish we had said something in the moment but it’s an expensive meal, and we wanted to eat what we had been given. But the apple tart was so bad we literally had to chase it with the ice cream to keep it down. Again, a couple next to us seemed to have a better experience with their tart. It may have just been that they were pretending like we were and it all came from the same tart.
The service was exemplary but I do have to wonder why our experience differed from the couples around us. Our hostess was very nice, taking our coats and telling us all about the wine and our waiter was also knowledgeable and personable.
I’m leaving 3 stars as it really is a special spot and has a lot of potential. We loved the music, the ambiance, candles, and wine list. But we just can’t help but feel a...
Read moreWanted to love this place but it was a total miss.
Myself and my friend (who is a cordon bleu trained chef) visited last night. We ordered 3 starters and the lamb neck main dish. Starters were pleasant, well presented and fresh. The main was really disappointing- the carrots and potato gratin were cold and the lamb was very tough. We politely let the waiter know (the setting is very intimate so we were mindful about making a scene). The waiter didn’t believe the food was cold “COLD?!” and walked away with the plate. They heated it up and brought the same plate back (half eaten carrots still on the plate). He came back to check again and I mentioned it’s fine, it’s still not very hot and the lamb is pretty tough but “the flavours are nice” he then asked my friend to start cutting through pieces of lamb and explained it will be tough where there is fat…. We are both aware of the texture of lamb, it wasn’t fat it was dry and grissle. We also didn’t appreciate someone standing over us asking to demonstrate cutting, super off putting. We finished the plate and the waiter appeared with the bill (that we had not asked for) and had taken the lamb dish off (£28). We still left £10 tip on a £90 bill- I asked if we can leave tip via card and he said “don’t worry about that, that’s fine” proceeded to punch in £100 and didn’t even thank us for our custom or the tip. Super disappointing! In hospitality you cannot take it personal when some dishes fall short for your diners. We noticed other people had ordered the dish and had cleared the plate- I reckon based on the temp, our plate was sat for a while under the hot plate.
Based on the way our complaint was handled we will not return, very...

Dining at Stockbridgeeating House is nothing short of enchanting. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that sets the stage for a memorable meal.
We began our culinary journey with the bone marrow, which was nothing less than spectacular. The rich, unctuous marrow was complemented perfectly by vibrant parsley and capers, while the perfectly charred sourdough added just the right amount of crunch to balance the velvety smoothness of the marrow. The bold anchovy bite was a delightful surprise—bringing a layer of depth that elevated the dish to something extraordinary.
Next, the prawns from Fife arrived, served with wild garlic—a dish that offered the perfect balance of freshness and earthiness. The prawns, plump and succulent, were a testament to the region’s commitment to high-quality ingredients, and the wild garlic tied it all together with its fragrant, herbaceous note.
Finally, the rice pudding with rhubarb was the ideal sweet ending. The creamy, comforting texture of the rice pudding paired beautifully with the tart, vibrant rhubarb, creating a contrast of flavors that was both satisfying and refreshing.
Stockbridgeeting House excels in creating an experience that engages all the senses—an unforgettable meal that marries bold flavors with subtle finesse. Every dish was executed with precision, showcasing both creativity and respect for quality ingredients. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a dining experience that’s truly...
