Read moreMy husband and I have been renting a flat in Portobello for a weeks holiday. We’ve had a really lovely time..... up until we attempted to have dinner in this place. My husband was already sat waiting on me coming to meet him - we’d agreed I’d come later.
On entering, I was accosted by a young chap asking where my mask was. I explained that I am exempt from wearing a mask due to health issues (my husband was sat outside anyway, so legally, there’s no need to wear face coverings) I was abruptly asked “I’ll need to ask you what your condition is” I explained that he had no right to ask me that and told him I would show proof from my Doctor via an email on my phone if absolutely necessary; albeit this is not required with exemption, I would have shown it. He said he didn’t want to see it, and persisted with “how do I know that’s real”. My husband immediately said that we were leaving, and we left to go elsewhere for dinner.
I am truly horrified by this experience and can honestly say it ruined my break away. I live every day with life limiting illness and do not need anyone to ask me what that condition is. This is blatant discrimination and frankly against the law. Perhaps train your staff on this procedure, and not to assume that people are healthy just because they may not look sick.
Please avoid if you’re...

We are a local couple and have visited a few times previously with mixed thoughts its time to up date our review!
On a previous visit the gluten free pizza was shocking 2 cherry tomatoes on a soggy under cooked pizza, but least we checked and didn't just eat the regular one which was first served! Besides this experience following a wander down the prom at the end of our walk we thought we'd pop in for a pint just after 8 (20:15) loads of tables free, was told was reservations only and no longer taking walk in's. Asked how I could resevere a table and told not to night. (Website last reservation 8pm)
Wandered over to the really loverly friendly chaps next door at Portobello Beach Bistro and sat down for a drink at their outside space right on the beach front with great service.
However from our seat next door we could watch multiple couples enter when we were turned away, all well after the last reservation time! We are not fussed that our face doesn't fit but at least just be honest with us and the clients you want!
Good luck to you and...
