Twenty Princes Street does Afternoon Tea so well in their grand and elegant dining space with private circular shaped booths and those large windows that showcase Edinburgh at it’s finest.
Christmas only adds to the magic here, elevating the experience to exceptional heights. The twinkling lights cast a warm glow and you might catch a faint scent of cinnamon and spices in the air.
The tea menu, showcasing Edinburgh Tea makers, Shibui, boasts a delightful selection of blends, ranging from Earl Grey to Berry Hibiscus. We loved the Berry Hibiscus fruit tea! It’s a tantalising infusion bursting with the delightful flavours of ripe berries and fragrant hibiscus petals, making it a truly delectable and refreshing beverage and perfect for our Afternoon Tea.
Afternoon Tea is started with an Amuse Bouche of Pea and Watercress Soup followed by a clinking of Champagne flutes. Twenty Princes Street Afternoon Tea comes with unlimited tea and coffee refills and as many of those plain and fruit, extremely buttery scones as you can eat, although I promise you, the two they provide is ample.
No afternoon tea would be complete without a selection of tantalising treats, such as Sour Cherry Macarons, chocolate and hazelnut madeleines and delectable spinach, walnut and feta pies. The wooden tea stand is laden with sweet and savoury treats with scones served on a separate plate along with a selection of jams and clotted cream.
We loved
The Spinach, walnut and feta pie
The Beef Pastrami and gouda sandwich
Sour Cherry Macaron
Chocolate and Hazelnut Madeleine
Lemon and poppyseed financier
Scones
I always find that Afternoon Tea allows for time to slow down, allowing you to savour each morsel and moment, making sure that a delightful afternoon tea experience lingers in your memory long after the last crumb is gone. At Twenty Princes Street, they’ve successfully managed this, and with the addition of Christmas, as the cosy warmth of the festive season wraps around us, there is an undeniable joy in sharing a meal with loved ones and cherished friends. Whether toasting champagne or sharing laughter over Afternoon Tea, these precious moments create memories that last a lifetime.
We enjoyed the Afternoon Tea just before they changed over to the Christmas Afternoon Tea.

Read moreThe waiter was extremely rude and we had awful service. When we came to the restaurant there was no warm welcome and we had to wait some time to be served although we had a booking. I was shocked by the rude waiter when I asked about the tea selection, he replied in a passive aggressive way: “the one my colleague told you before”….excuse me, isn’t it part of the service you need to provide and telling the selection of teas you have, considering it’s written in the menu that we need to ask the staff about the available teas ? Yes I asked his colleague before and so what? I came to have a good time and relax and I’m not supposed to memorize all the teas if you cannot write them in the menu…. Then I asked about the oat milk that they had and guess what? I’ve got a rude reply again:”it’s a restaurant, not a coffee shop here”. Sorry, what??? Seriously? Yes that’s a restaurant and I’d expect a better service here. I’m so shocked with this rude behavior. The food was okayish, the cod tasted like the cheap fish we give to cats lol The lamb was nice but the potatoes graten was okayishhhhh for the starters we ordered bread which came with one type of each … lol the monkfish was super fat and oily… but the salmon was nice. We also ordered the french fries and they forgotten I think and then Brought two sets but the wrong ones and it was too late when we finished the mains We decided not to take any deserts after this service…. When they brought the bill we wanted to ask to remove the service charge and I think they understood that it was horrible and removed it prior we asked
So I don’t recommend this place at all. The food is ok and doesn’t worth it. The service was horrible and spoiled our dinner.
Maybe it’s because we are foreigners and they are racist maybe because for any other reason I don’t know but that’s very...
Read moreI arranged an early dinner here with my Husband and Grandparents. They were in Edinburgh for the day and wanted somewhere for dinner that was close to the bus station. I had heard good things about Twenty and after looking on their website, found a deal that is £20 for a main course and a glass of wine or a beer for two people, that was very reasonable indeed.
I requested one of their lovely round marble tables in the window as it boasts a beautiful view out over Princess Street and the mound.
The choice from the set menu deal was fine for the rest of my dinning party but not so great as I am a strict vegetarian and after enquiring about the pesto linguine, I was advised that it had parmesan cheese in it which isn't veggie as it uses calves stomach lining rennet in it. I instead opted for a Thai vegetable & noodle salad with tempura & coriander chilli corn on top, it was delicious. I had been worried about it being to spicy but they kindly put the sauce in a small pot on the side so I could add what I wanted. The other food ordered at our table was the burger and the Steak Sandwich, all seemed to be well received and all plated were cleared, which is always a good sign.
I was pleased to see the beer option was a Peroni, sometimes with deals you can end up with obscure brands you have never heard of, but not this time.
The ladies bathroom had little glasses of fresh flowers which was a lovely touch.
Very good service and it was a nice dinner. I have rated it 4 stars rather than 5 due to the veggie option not actually being fully veggie and me then being restricted to one option on the menu.
The ajoining cocktail bar Juniper looks inviting and I would like to come back to...
