After reading some of the other reviews I was in agreenent with most. I brought my children in here on a whim, and I didnt realisr how hungry I was until I started tucking into my Vegan Cheesy Lee. WHAT A BURGER.X And the sweet potato fries were also seasoned which made them very tasty. My kids loved their spicy hot wings and they were super happy with the tub of onion rings to share. So the food was great. However,I noticed that one reviewer had commented on the smell of the place on entering, and initially, my first thought was to back up out of here because the smell in there was super bad...seriously..did feel like I was entering the public toilets. And I have read the response of the owner, and its a shame because the food and the service for me was both on point. The lady that served me was patient because I chose to have just a burger, then I decided I wanted chips, then I thought that I could do with a drink also(which turns out was the meal deal she had offered me to start with), so she wa very cool with me being an Indecisive orderer. I wish I had gotten her name to thank her in this review, but i was very grateful at the time too. So In short(lol which this review is not), for food and staff they get the highest rating from me, just unfortunate that the smell could put people off of having one of the best burger...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo far this is still the best burger in Colchester! Five guys fell very short, now we are waiting for Byron's to step up to the plate.
Normally I go for the buttermilk chicken with a beef patty cooked medium added extra, and slaw, along with rosemary fries for a side, and then a soda to drink.
Now the burger appearance is fantastic, the presentation here is spot on. Burger is perfectly stacked and comes in a lovely slightly toasted brioche bun. The burger is always thick and juicy, not greasy, these guys make there own beef patties and they are fantastic. I wish I could have the recipe for myself! Rosemary fries are to die for if you are not a fan you can get plain or sweet potatoe fries which again are cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. As for drink there is a great selection of beers and the shakes too.
The value foroney is fantastic. While it is more expensive than your average burger (meal sets you back £10-14) joint you get such a higher quality meal. Unlike Five Guys down the road where you pay a premium price for what ultimately was just a greasy ball of McDonald's cheeseburger.
This is the best burger in town still. Now into 2018 when Byron's opens to see if LTB can still...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs an American who enjoys a good burger I felt a little underwhelmed. So here's the pros and cons: Pros: large burger and portion sizes ingredients are high quality Nice atmosphere
Cons The rosemary fries are nothing to write home about.. just average at best for me. The burger meat seems very high protein.. it seems like the fat content isn't there and it lacks a lot of flavor. The burger to bun to veg ratio Is all wrong. The meat seems condensed and low fat (90 /10 or 95/5 protein to fat ratio) which makes it high quality but doesn't taste much like burger chuck(typically 80/20 protein to fat ratio). There wasn't much veg to balance out the high amount of meat on the burger. No crispness to balance it all out. I would recommend getting rid of this red onion marmelade.. nothing like that in America.. should have onions for freshness instead. The meat also seems under seasoned which wasn't the end of the world but I didn't really enjoy it. Overall I'd give it a 3 out of 5. It wouldn't be my first place to go if I was hungry but I wouldn't turn my nose up...
