The most underwhelming pub in The Cotswolds!
We went for the advertised Roast Beef and horseradish sandwich. It was inedible... Rare beef can be fantastic, but raw beef is not. At all. It was not roasted by any means. This was, in all honestly, the worst sandwich.
The bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich was at least edible, albeit made with cheap ingredients - over cooked bacon, hunks of brie that over powered, with no balance of flavours, made it very ordinary. Chips that had been sitting around, so were hard and scrappy. And a measly portion at that.
Perhaps the kitchen staff should also mind the amount of "f" words they use while at the service pass as well. Listening to their language between them and the floor staff really topped off a very disappointing experience. Incredibly unprofessional.
We will stick to the bigger group owned pubs whilst in the area. It's nice to support independent, but seriously, the level of service and product can...
Read moreAfter looking around the square for a suitable place for lunch we settled on the Talbot. The lunch menu was limited, but we managed to select Scampi, and Fish and chips, the meals were served fairly quickly, but sadly the quality and taste was poor, and overpriced, basically just a pub meal, no peas with the Fish, and poorly cooked chips.
Drinks were also overpriced even for SOW prices.
Ten percent for service was added to the Bill which may be mentioned on the Menu, but if it was we missed it
Overall we were very disappointed with our revisit to SOW, since COVID it does not seem to be getting back to the Town it was, cars spoil the centre as usual which is sad.
I realize the hospitality industry is trying to recoup losses from our COVID years, but my advice is make sure the value and service is there with any increased charges or you will fail, since your customers are also looking to lower costs and...
Read moreWe visited The Talbot this afternoon. The server was very friendly upon entry but had no other staff around to support him during such a busy lunchtime rush. However, he was very enthusiastic throughout.
We ordered our food once we had sat down. Unfortunately, the wait for the main course went on for well over an hour and for the wait (and the price), we thought it would be a larger portion of food than we received. We werenât entirely sure why the food took so long to come out as the dishes werenât necessarily complicated (sausage sandwich & bubble and squeak with a fried egg.)
Unfortunately, we were not offered any drinks whilst we waited, we would have appreciated this.
On the positive side, the food was delicious.
However, due to the extensive wait and the price for what we received, we will not...
