I'd like to day nice things about this place because it could be so good. Could be, but isn't. It's all a bit confused.. The small bar to the left is lovely, but don't expect to get served (it was therefore also empty - well, it was when I visited). The main bar is not sure what it is, and the restaurant thinks it's something it isn't. I didn't try the food, admittedly, but the menu looked decent enough though a little pricey for the odd (and somewhat confused) atmosphere (there was also a children's menu, which is good). The staff seemed generally confused, as perhaps rightly they would be if the place doesn't know if it's a pub, bar, restaurant or none of the above. There's a massive beer garden, which must be lovely in the summer, and it's dog friendly (though I'm not sure if it was Snoop or Booh who was the 'Dog of the Month' as two signs gave me conflicting information; fitting, perhaps, that they were confused, too.). I'd like to come back, and be less confused, but in all honesty I don't think I will.

Delicious food. Tasty and well cooked and well presented. Good value for money if you chose wisely. I really liked that you could size down portions for a lighter bite that was ample for any normal appetite. Pub also very dog friendly not just out in garden, with the smokers! Hall and Woodhouse brewery does seem to have a good range of nonstandard ales too as any family business should. On a subsequent visit the food was delicious. Flat iron steak tender with a hint of chew and bags of flavour. Perfect chips fluffy on the inside with exterior crunch. Disappointing mushroom but you can't have everything! Starters were tomato soup n chunky wholemeal bread and juicy calamari strips. So succulent I was transported back to Crete. Definitely returning on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday for the special offers. See website for more details.

This is one of the places where I like to go for dinner every time I have to fly via Gatwick airport. The setup and location if this place is very original and u feel like somewhere in coutryside.Perfect place for lunch and couple of drinks. If you wanna have romantic dinner in a cottage style country house with candles and fire place this is the location to go. Only reason why I didn t give 5☆ is the quallity of food.It can be definitelly BETTER.The classic and easy leak potato soup was far from enjoyable. On the other hand the selection of local and crafted brew and housewines is great. Will for sure visit again.

First impressions were it’s a lovely, cosy restaurant/ gastropub with nice outdoor area. Food was pretty good overall, above average, I got the beef roast. Bar staff were friendly and were very accommodating to gluten intolerance (which was 1 of us who was coeliac). However we were really disappointed in the end. We went for my mother’s birthday. I got her a surprise birthday cake that I asked behind the bar if it was ok to keep there and light closer to the time (like you usually would in that type of restaurant setting). The 2 women behind the bar were so friendly - wrote my name on the box and said just let us know around 10mins before and we’ll get that out for you. We give the 10mins notice. 30mins go by and nothing. So we go back up and there was a waiter man (Luca? I think his name was) who went and got the cake from the kitchen, and handed back the cake in the box with the candles and said sorry we are understaffed we can’t do this for you, 2 people have called in sick. No real apology and he just went about his business. So we walk back to the table with the surprise cake inside the box and no candles lit. It was so disappointing and just embarrassing quite frankly. Ruined what was otherwise a lovely experience. It’s ok to be understaffed, but why agree to take it to begin with? If it was an immediate no we would have done it elsewhere but the initial staff were so friendly and welcoming - it was a shame this waiter kind of ruined the experience overall. I told him at the end of the night that it did kind of ruin the experience. Takes 2 mins to light a couple of candles and bring it to the table. Or I would have done this myself with staff permission - they just needed to store it and provide a lighter. Instead it was brushed off and felt as though they didn’t have time for us. When you pay money to go somewhere the little things like how people treat you make a huge difference. It’s a 2.5-3/5 purely due to the service. Would have been a...

Lovely old pub, full of character, little nooks to sit in, a big garden and dog friendly. It could be sooo good, but the service does let it down. On this occasion my friend and I had gone in from the garden to order together - 7 meals, same table number, paying separately. But while his family were served their food promptly, mine were still waiting an hour later. I could see what had happened - a big table of about 20 people had turned up and must have ordered online at around the same time as us, so the kitchen had moved on to them without noticing the rest of our order. I went in to ask a couple of times about the rest of our meals and was told they it was on the way and they were busy. Eventually, after watching everyone on the big table next to us get served and our friends had long finished eating, 3 of us did get our food, but my son, still, did not. I gave them another 15 minutes before going in to ask about his food (a baked camembert) , and was again told they were busy and i should've ordered inside. I said I had, at which point another staff member was called to go check on the last meal. They emerged with said Camembert, handed it to me, and asked did i want a free desert. Declining, I took the last meal out myself, my son ate it, and we left. What inspired me to take the time to give this review is that at any point they could have apologised, but no one did. I'm quite a chilled person, and a simple sorry would've gone a long way. The food btw when you get it is quite nice, improved since...
