Tilgate Lakeside Cafe — Restaurant in Crawley

I visited early last Sunday and ordered one tea, one coffee, a bacon bap and a sausage bap. The tea and coffee were served really quickly and tasted ok. The food took about 10 minutes to arrive by which time the hot drinks were no longer hot. The bread rolls were really fresh and large but disappointingly, there were only three bits of sausage (which were sausages cut in half lengthways) in the roll. Similarly, the amount of bacon served was less than two rashers. I know times are hard but considering what you charge for the food and when you are serving re-heated, pre-cooked sausages from frozen, the difference in cost between one and a half sausages and two sausages is rather negligible. Likewise, the bacon serving could be slightly more generous. Even the tomato sauce and brown sauce were budget quality from a cash & carry. Whatever happened to Heinz Ketchup and HP brown sauce?

Like many places, it seems that the quality and quantity have been stripped down to the bare minimum to help maximise profits. Unfortunately there is only so far this theory can be applied before customers start voting with their feet and not returning.

I've been a customer of The Lakeside since it opened. My preference is a bacon bap and hot chocolate although I've had other foodstuffs. So tasty. What else can I say. Friendly, efficient service from Andy and the team. It should be noted that each item is cooked to order and you may experience some small delay but it is great food not fast food. Definitely worth the (small) wait. It's clean, tasty food, lovely drinks, the type you'd make for yourself, great service, friendly people, great banter or conversation whichever you prefer, and reasonable prices. They are dog friendly putting out water and giving the occasional treat. They also sell bird food but I haven't purchased any yet. What more could you want?
