Shocking experience a couple of months ago. Iāve delayed reviewing as Iāve emailed and phoned twice to complain but had no response. Went with friend for lunch. The team were all ready to serve until a āmanagerā arrived who questioned all that the staff had done. This resulted in people having hot food on their plates who couldnāt pay because the manager had sent the person on the till to do something else. The person in front of me who was waiting to pay with a tray of hot food gave up and went elsewhere leaving his tray of food on the side. When serving my food the manager reprimanded the server for the amount of potato she had put on the plate. He then said āyou need to spread it out to make it look more than it actually isā. He then went on to demonstrate by removing half of the food and using the back of a ladle to spread out the potato. I thought I must have misheard but others in the queue heard the same words. This manās intrusions were not helpful and the staff were clearly embarrassed by his attitude but it seemed to me they were warey or maybe even scared of him. So ⦠John Lewis Partnership, as Iāve asked in my 2 emails and my 2 telephone calls, is this the standard of service and integrity that you now encourage and condone. This place is completely understaffed and what staff are in seem to spend time on other tasks rather than serving customers. We moved to another till (no-one made it clear that the other till was open until we asked). Then the service there was really slow. All the customers I spoke to in the queue were complaining about how long it was taken. Second - it's messy. There were 12 dirty tables around us.
