Snap lunchtime decision with dogs in tow saw us dive into the cramped courtyard that makes up the sit-in dining area of the store. We struggled to get our pushchair in but or dogs helped by barking loudly and tying themselves up on their leads. (Sorry everyone else).
Food service was really quick, lots of sausage options but I won’t be taking my vegetarian friends as their choices for the meat free among us, were there, but limited…..although why you’d be visiting a sausage importer for lunch if you were a vegetarian may be a pertinent question, so maybe that’s not too much of an issue.
I opted for the knockwurst and it was the biggest sausage in a bun I’ve ever eaten. Super tasty though but I feel like my kids probably need therapy now having seen me unhinge my jaw to make it fit but it was worth it.
It was essentially a hot dog though and I’d argue it’s difficult to get hot dogs wrong really, but therein lies the rub, it was quite an expensive hot dog for what you get, especially knowing one can get the equivalent for £1.50 in a well known wholesale megastore but then again, until they move into Bakewell, I reckon Tiroler Stuberl probably has the market cornered.
Kids ate almost everything which always a good sign so will likely be visiting again but must point out that it’s going to be tricky for anyone with a physical disability. Space is super tight for wheelchairs and the toilet is not really disabled friendly at all which is a bit of a shame, so fair warning.
Would love to see take out be an option as it’s definitely the kind of thing you could eat on the go and am looking forward to letting my work colleagues know I visited a sausage importer for the first time ever over...
Read moreWe first went here a few years ago when visiting Bakewell and super enjoyed it, however, this year, at £15.90 for a couple of sausages and nowt else i.e. no sides at all, it’s way too much. A bog standard Frankfurter was £9 and came in a standard sausage bun. No sides. We got three sausages and a couple of normal drinks and it came to £33. I could have had a bigger lunch with an alcoholic drink for that. Won’t be going again. I appreciate they import from Austria, but still, they need to give sides with meals for the price to make it a better deal. We were still hungry afterwards. Plus point was the staff...
Read moreDreadful, One dry sausage on a tiny dry finger roll, no sign of any moisture apart from the cheap watery ketchup etc in a table cart. Nothing else on the chipped plate no onions, crisps or salad or anything traditionally Austrian. The smoky toastie was on cheap white bread with very chunky white raw onions that fell out as there was nothing for them to adhere to as the melted cheese was on the other side of the meat filling again just slapped on a chipped plate not even cut in half and presented. We also had two regular warm flat fizzy soft drinks which came to a sum of just short of £19.00 We’ve had much...
