Was looking forward to a new Japanese restaurant in Doncaster(it appeared to have other stores in London) , so arrived not long after opening optimistically eager to try a stand alone business rather than chains. The service was good and polite, appeared to be attentive, some items missing from the menu. Ordered a selection of foods, sushi, soft shell crab sushi, miso, pork ramen Gyudon, and some other sides, with green tea From the positive attentive service, clean and sparse interior, it was downhill from there unfortunately. Japanese food is known for unique delicate flavours, umami broths, braised meats and high quality ingredients. My hope was that they’d worked with the fish market for supplies, so ordered The soft shell crab sushi and salmon. It was essentially crab stick sushi for nearly £10 a portion. Next item was miso soup. Average at best not one of the better pre-made ones and definitely not home made. The avocado and salmon sushi was flavourless lacking seasoning or vinegar. The mayonnaise was standard hellmans and not Japanese style. The Temaki was overloaded with salmon and too large and flavourless. On to the hot dish. Poke had no dressing and again was bland. Tonkatsu ramen used cheap chinese egg noodles, lacking flavour in the broth and the pork belly was tough chunks. The gyudon was again bland and thickly sliced. Green tea was from a tea bag. I write this more negative review in the hope they make changes, and/or get better chefs. It’s the details that count and people are more savvy to what good food is out there. My recommendations would be shrink the bowl size and make smaller portions focussing on flavour and authenticity. Season more and use authentic suppliers and good quality. When you’re using frozen takoyaki, packet miso, tea bags then charging London prices I can’t see a future, I’d rather pay...
Read moreWe were heading to our go-to Vietnamese place for a comforting bowl of noodles… 🍜 but then we spotted Mimik Sushi and decided to try something new. Best detour ever! 🥢
I had duck ramen 🦆🍜 for the first time — and it completely stole the show. The broth was rich, the toppings generous, and the presentation? Michelin-level pretty ✨. I almost felt bad disturbing it. Almost.
The cherry on top? An ice-cold Asahi 🍺 — perfect pairing! And while we didn’t try their sushi this time, we saw the chefs in action behind the counter 🍣 — absolute edible art! We’re already planning our return visit just for that.
A hidden gem 💎 with a cozy vibe, friendly service, and food that’s as beautiful as it is delicious. Highly recommend!

Update from 14th June, we are back there 🤣 🍣 Mimik Sushi Challenge: 60 pcs in 25 minutes (well… almost 😅) 🍺
We came back to Mimik because we know their ramen is amazing – but today it was time for a new adventure… The Mimik Jumbo Sushi Platter – 60 pieces of sushi glory! 🎯🍱
My husband took it as a personal challenge. ⏱ 25 minutes on the clock. 🍣 60 pieces staring back at him. 💪 One brave man. Result? 44 conquered. 16 surrendered. 😂
Between the delicious ramen, crispy karaage, and ice-cold Asahi… it was a sushi battle to remember 💥🥢
We laughed, we chewed, we nearly exploded – and we’ll definitely be back (maybe with backup next time!) 😄

Read moreUnfortunately my experience tonight wasn’t good. Our table ordered 2 ramen dishes, a rice dish and a multi-tray of sushi. 1 hour after placing our order we had to ask where our food was, when we did receive some of our food 10 minutes later the food was no longer hot. It seemed to have been sat for a while, which was a shame as the ramen tasted OK. We received no reason or apology for the wait or the cold food.
We didn’t receive our sushi in the nearly 2 hours that we sat at the table. We eventually had to get this removed from the order and leave. There was no apology or reason given for this. If they had just informed us of the issue causing the delay we could have made a decision on whether we wanted the wait for the sushi for this length of time. We watched several other tables do the same as us while waiting for our own food, getting refunds for dishes they didn’t receive.
However, we also watched another table who arrived without a booking half an hour after we had arrived receive all of their food/sushi within 20 minutes of them sitting down. They looked to have ordered more dishes than we had and even had food delivered to their table that they hadn’t ordered. It seemed that several of the tables around us were being prioritised which is unfortunate.
Walk in collection orders were quicker to be brought out than our meal, which was disappointing to watch happen.
Unless much improvement is made on the service and turnaround I won’t be returning or recommending...
