We have eaten here previously and always had a good meal. The last time was over a year ago, so we decided to pay a visit as we were in the area. When we arrived, we were ignored even though 3 staff members were not doing anything. A very nice young waitress who had been serving other customers then showed us to a table. It was early evening and very quiet. Our starters came out quite quickly. The calamari was very greasy, but it was cooked OK. The prawn cocktail was average, but bread was quite stale. They didn't have the drinks we wanted, so we ordered a very overpriced mocktail. The mains arrived, pie was OK but the veg was so overcooked and rubbery. Haddock? and chips, well, I'm not sure it was actually Haddock. It had no taste, batter was greasy, and everything had been over salted. Nobody came to check if everything was OK? They forgot one of our drink so we had to go to the bar and get it. When we finished our meal we were waiting ages for someone to come over but got fed up waiting and went to the bar to request the bill. When paying, we were then asked if everything was OK, but by then, it was too late! I just said no,not really. If that's the way they treat customers and can't even see what's wrong, we won't be returning, unfortunately. The 3 stars are an average of previous visits because we know it was better in the past, but we won't be risking it again after our...
Read moreUpdate: 1 and a half months after posting this review I have been past the outdoor seating several times including today. Seagull "muck" that i mentioned is still on the glass screening facing the beach. Its never been cleaned? Why dont they clean this up? Its disgusting. I've spoken to a neighbour who also said hygiene was below par! IS THE MANAGER READING THESE REVIEWS?
Haven't been here in a while and as it was a warm evening decided on dinner at The Boat House as it has outdoor seating. It was early evening and sat on a table next to the railings which have a transparent plastic barrier covering them. The plastic barrier was covered in bird poo As I recall had same problem last time and were told we could sit inside instead , so such we decided to ignore it. Not very appealing when you are eating btw. The food was mediocre at best. I had mushrooms on bread, which was tasteless mush, followed by caesar salad. The salad was dry so I asked the server if I could kindly have some olive oil. I was told the kitchen said this wasn't possible! Decided to give pudding a miss. Drinks were fine. Such a shame that this prime location in Deal is so below average when it could be brilliant. Quick update, as I walk past The Boathouse daily, I can report that several days later the bird poo by the table is still there and not...
Read moreReally disappointed and probably won't use again. So booked a table weeks in advance for New years day for 6pm. Knowing there wasn't a lot open that night in the area and we want a decent meal ending a brilliant couple of nights here and having dined here many times before over the years. But unfortunately the limited menu was literally sold out of any thing containing a meat product apart from the burgers. No chicken wings, steak or lamb?? Know surly whoever is ordering the kitchen supplies knows how many guess you have in the hotel and booking plus. Allowing for any walk-ins you can quite easily have your kitchen stocked with plenty of food for your bookings that evening, especially being part of the hotel. Not everyone wants fish & chips. Now Sophie the young waitress was fantastic, she was very professional and apologetic but I did stress that it wasn't her fault or problem. It completely lays at the feet of the kitchen. As for the limited food we received the burgers were OK but smoothed in sauce. crab on potato totts was awful. Just a smigging of crab served on Icelands frozen potato totts. On my photos you can see pervious reviews and...
