Hog & Bean — Restaurant in Dover

Not my cup of tea, excuse the pun. Was going to eat but the trendy overpriced menu didn't match my taste buds or wallet and the sub-standard attempt at Boho put me off. Staff seemed to be mucking about and they lacked professionalism. Just had a coffee which was OK but would have spent more if the pricing menu and surroundings were less pretentious. I noticed a customer came in for a sausage roll and promptly left when the price was mentioned. I ended up in an email exchange with who I assume was the owner, following my initial review. Lou was seemingly looking for feedback but she simply justified and defended so I'm inclined to give 2 stars which was to be my initial rating but I was trying to be gentle. Ultimately I was disappointed with the cafe and then a pointless follow up which I felt was more like a passive-aggressive gesture rather than a genuine attempt to improve the customer experience. Looking back at the reviews I can see many customers are happy but I'm not alone in my view and noticed another review mentioned staff behaviour. My husband, 3 year old daughter, medium/large scruffy hound and I poured into the Hog & Bean on a crowded bank holiday Sunday when Deal was teeming with crowds. We were hot & a bit overwhelmed and desperate to hide away in peace & we were welcomed here so beautifully. Can I just say, the STAFF are so incredibly lovely, genuinely lovely & staff make a business. The kind ladies operating the floor were just brilliant, funny, attentive, interested… despite being very busy. The food was divine. I had a toasted bacon and Brie with onion marmalade & it was just divine, it is the only word that will suffice. Over priced and kind of average. Actually I had quite a nice coffee and the staff were friendly enough but that is where the experience began to drop off. We sat in the rear setting area and next to our table was a hand written card promoting a must try iced latte; well it was a hot day and my wife ordered one. An iced latte though it was not I suspect that no coffee beans were harmed in its production... What came to the table was a sickly sweet concoction which we latter discovered came out of a slushy type machine. I ordered a sausage roll snack but it was not great. I could have gone for 2or 3 stars for this place I was on the fence but the price that they charge tipped me to go for 2 I think that if you are going to charge premium prices then you have to be held to a higher standard and be open to critsism if everything is not spot...
