Low-key gem of a place! Been here many times. My 9-year-old daughter insists on it as the first port of call whenever we come across to visit the old, and I'm always happy to say yes!
Menu offers a surprising variety of no fuss, straightforward, honest food. Breakfasts are an obvious highlight, with different fried options, as well as variety of eggs benedict. All great! Lunch menu also always tempting, with the food seeming homemade with care and attention, and arriving cleanly presented and, above all, unfailingly tasty. Portion sizes are, to me, perfect. Not too massive. Not too small. Always very very fair for the price, which is always reasonable.
I don't know how they put out such a variety of consistently good quality dishes from a small kitchen, but respect and gratitude to the staff who are in there. Amazing job.
The serving staff are sometimes a little busy, but they are efficient and very friendly. The place is a little small, especially when full. But then again, it's full because people know it's great, so can't really complain! Just might not be the location for an intimate date!
Only complaint I have was they were just closed for two days renovations when I was last back from the continent, so I didn't get my breakfast that I was looking forward to so much! Better be open when I'm back at Christmas, or there'll also be an angry little girl standing at the door with me!
Thanks to the team behind this place! It's an absolute asset...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible service! Not child friendly at all
It's the second time I have come here with my 7 yr old daughter and my mum & sister. The 1st visit I felt uncomfortable, my daughter asked for the toilet and then a straw for her drink, the lady wasn't happy. The atmosphere was comfortable but still We decided to give it a second chance as it could have been a one off. We order 3 tuna sandwiches and my daughter ordered sausage, beans & bacon plus 3 tea cakes!. My daughter was hungry so ate some crisps waiting for her food. We were told that he would let it go this time but not to come here again with food!! IT WAS A BAG OF CRISPS!! bearing In mind they don't sell crisps. They aren't child friendly at all and I have never been so humiliated over my 7yr old eating a...
Read moreI have not been to this cafe for a few months, but agree with the recent comment: this cafe probably does not understand what a disadvantage its puts itself to in having CASH only, as ( I check the last reviwer ) and its seems over 85% of transactions are card based, and I think when everyone os working hard that CASH "wink wink" idea seems a bit lame in this day and age. Ill be returning for a Roast when I see the card machone sign on the front door , and yes maybe " open until 3.00 is...
