What a delightful historic workshop where you can learn by doing (or watching the volunteers do their amazing work). We were so enthralled by the passion, dedication and enthusiasm around the projects going in this place and had the most wonderful chat with Steve the Blacksmith! It is so impressive to see the thought and process that goes behind the medieval ship restoration. We also loved the extremely thorough explanation behind all the arrowheads, metal work and medieval tools. If you're planning a visit to Sandwich highly recommend visiting their website to book a workshop experience day! Very much looking forward to following their journey on the ongoing projects!

A wonderful place and resource on Sandwich’s historic quayside. My partner and I visited the first time for the Hoodening in January and got talking to Steve the wonderful blacksmith. We went back for his full day medieval blacksmithing workshop. He is an incredibly knowledgeable and kind man and a very patient teacher. All the volunteers there are lovely and I recommend anyone who is interested to check out their events and workshops! A really valuable community run resource for history lovers.

Great fun and free to enter to learn about traditional medieval way of making things! You can also book a paid masterclass to have a go making things yourself. Really great fun and lovely people running the show. Hope we don't lose gems like this. Great to see ppl passionate about their hobbies and interests

What an unexpected treat... My family and I almost wandered past this unassuming centre on Sandwich Quay. I'm so pleased we were ushered inside by one of the very well versed and enthusiastic members of staff. Bigger museums / learning centres could learn a lot from a visit here. For a start every member of the team managed to hold our attention with their vivid, accurate and most importantly humorous descriptions of medieval life and crafts. The blacksmith was working when we went and apart from learning how everything was made from woodcrafts to enamelling... (we missed the mead making in the morning) it was clear that each member of the team was a highly skilled craftsman in their own right. We came in for a few minutes and stayed for half an hour. What's more it is free to visit but afterwards you'll...

Miniscule working museum with an active display of medieval metal forgery and woodwork. You can take anywhere between five minutes and half an hour to examine the full display of crafted medieval produce. Sandwich Medieval Trust voluntarily operate this niche museum on the Sandwich Quayside. It is free to enter but donations are welcomed and frankly deserved. It's a seasonal project and I don't believe its open every day, but if you're passing and it is open, then would recommend you it checking out. The staff are friendly and extremely well rehearsed on the workings of medieval crafting. They have an ongoing project to construct a boat using only medieval techniques. It's a fantastic idea and I wish them well on...
