Having been looking forward to a post-christmas meal out and really fancying something beside turkey, we visited The Cellars.
First part, we were asked FOUR times what we would like to drink by four separate waiters. Each time informing we had already ordered.
We paid £3.57 for three slightly burned poppadoms but meh, no big deal.
The mains then arrived, a butter chicken and mixed makhani, both of which LACKED FLAVOUR. The butter chicken was collecting water on top so had clearly been WATERED DOWN. Nice touch Cellars.
At £9 this was pretty bad, total waste of money but wasn't in the mood to send this back.
We were asked if everything was okay, the waiter already agreed with himself it was and moved onto another table before I could confirm otherwise.
£3.79 for a Pepsi, I mean come on... its a draught pepsi. Zero skill required and again way over priced. Just my opinion on that.
Overall rushed service, trying to be over efficient to keep you moving along and didn't feel in any way relaxed the whole time. Shame as its a lovely setting, but would of been much happier if the main course had some depth of flavour and the chef hadn't watered it down. It may be tough times for restaurants, and you may be "making it go further" in the back but we notice as customers and will vote with our feet still.
If in Stourbridge town centre, avoid Cellars unless you're into bland food at over...
Read moreOn entry there is no real welcome. Noone tells you there is a delay on your table, you're just left there waiting. Our 815pm table turned into and 830 table. We were taken down stairs into the cellars. It was quite pretty. We immediately ordered drinks. The drinks menu is extremely limited, no flavoured vodkas, no orange J2O, in the end I ordered lemonade which tasted cheap and nasty. At 9pm we had poppadoms. Mine tasted of fat, never tasted one like it. Not sure what this means, we're they a bit stale? At 2130hrs there was still no sign of our food, no offer of a second drink. I ended up going up to the bar and ordered our own second drink. Around 2140hrs almost an hour and a half after our arrival we got pur starters. The food was OK. The mains followed and again they were OK. Nothing special just OK. I had salmon which came with a side salad. The side salad was just lettuce... The worst part about our visit was the service. I guess we have been spoiled as we always go to the Bombay Pickle. I will never return to the Cellars. I paid £140 for the pleasure of terrible service and horrible drinks,...
Read moreI usually don’t like leaving a poor review, but was very disappointed with our meals, we ordered a starter and main, the tandoori starter was dry, and the Main was just as bad. I ordered a south Asian chilli chicken, you can tell there was no passion put into making this dish. Just some old chicken tikka tossed into some sauce. And a few chillies for good measure. As a local business me and my wife were looking for a decent curry house, we could start to use on a regular basis, it definitely will not be this one. The other issue I had was I wanted a beer on draft, so ordered a cobra, please clean your pipes as the beer had a stale taste. We both said exactly the same thing.
We came here by recommendation, so we’re extremely disappointed.
Waste of £60!!! Only thing that was ok was the chips. I did feed this back to a waiter as I left, but as a first and last time experience I can say I will not...
