HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

Looked around for a while and saw Franklin's. Looked smart with good menu. Really fancied some local Budleigh crab as hadn't had it before but heard it was delicious.

Sandwich came and after a couple of bites I was over whelmed by a horrible taste of cheap crab paste. Opened the sandwich to see that I had been served the cheapest part of the crab that is usually reserved for sauces and not the best white fleshy meat that the £10 price tag led me to believe I was getting. I tried to stomach it and carried on eating but my husband new something was wrong so i explained how bad it tasted so he told me to stop eating it.

Unfortunately no one came over to check how our food was so my husband finished his and I left mine. When we did finally get someone's attention they told me that it was from the crab but it was the brown less tasty meat. They said that as I had eaten half it was a "sticky situation" but we asked for our money back but they only offered us half even though they knew they were selling the worst part of the crab.

As we waited for the money to be returned I felt quite queasy as the crab already started repeating on me and was not pleasant. I ended up having to go to the toilet and bringing most of it back up.

It really did ruin our day as no matter what i tried I could still taste the horrible...

It was just after 5pm, and we returned from a long walk to Orcombe Point, and were in the mood for some tea (and coffee for my spouse). We were surprised that pretty much all the cafes were closed, but found that Franklins was open, so decided to try them. I ordered the cream tea (5.95 GBP, which I thought was quite a good price given that I’ve paid 3 pounds and more just for a pot of tea in some places), and my spouse his drink of choice, an Americano. We shared the scone and cream (a huge indulgence, as it is). The drinks were fine, the scone and cream delicious. We’re not experts on them - really not on our diet, and this indulgence was because we are on holiday, but from my limited knowledge I’d say “yum”. We did break the law (in jest, I hope) by not using the jam and just enjoying the subtle flavor of the cream. The service was good and pleasant, and we sat outdoors and enjoyed the sun and the air. A nice treat at a...

It's a Monday morning in early September and we ended up in Exmouth for the day. Wow....I cannot believe how busy it is, especially the Strand area or main square. Cafes and restaurants all busy and we managed to get a seat outside at Franklin's, after the lady sanitised the table. Good menu, good service. I had a mini breakfast and my partner had an omelette. Both were delicious. Coffees ok and ambiance good apart from a nesting pigeon that kept buzzing over my head!! Only one Male toilet which seems bizarre. Plenty of space inside but a bit dark and dingy. Overall...

Nice spot in the centre of Exmouth. We came here for a early breakfast and it was really enjoyable. The food is quality, cooked great and nice portions. There’s also a vegetarian option of the same standard. Staff are warm and welcoming, and even brung both breakfast out at the same time, with 2 servers which was a nice touch. There was a few reservation signs on the tables for later slots. So maybe worth reserving if you’re coming at peak time.
