I'm torn about writing this review, as a number of other recent ones note that the family that runs this hotel has had some personal tragedy leading to many members having to return home for a time. That said, I think it's important people know what they're getting into if the hotel is going to kept open and running.||My partner and I started a hiking vacation along the Jurassic Coast in Exmouth, and the Manor Hotel was our launching point after spending some time in London. Check in was smooth, the room seemed fine at first, and the surrounding area was lovely with a cool ocean breeze despite the heatwave and some wonderful restaurants (go to Rockfish!!!).||However, after coming back from dinner and settling in, we noticed a number of issues. First, we had to reorganize our bags for the morning luggage transfer pick up, and upon going downstairs to bring the bags to the nook where we were told to put them, we found the whole lobby locked up. We had not been told this would happen (only that the front door would lock after a certain time), and when I called the number thinking maybe there was an overnight clerk, I was told to just come back in the morning. (This might have been fine generally, but we were on tight timeline due to the luggage pickup window and when we needed to leave due to the length of our hike.)||Going back to the room, the headboard on the bed had a thick layer of dust on it; the closet shelf was similarly unclean, with a previous guest's old prescription paperwork dated from June (we stayed in August) shoved into a back corner. There was a fan already in the room, which was definitely needed due to the heat, but it was also covered in dust. And when pulling back the covers to get into bed, we pulled back one layer too many and got down to the mattress cover, which had a distressing amount of debris on it.||Fortunately, after pulling the offending mattress cover off and remaking the bed, we got a decent night's sleep. Before breakfast, I spoke with Nazim at the front desk, who was sympathetic but entirely unhelpful. He looked chagrined, but made no offer to perhaps refund our breakfast (we were only there one night, so that's probably the only thing he could have done) which was adequate, if underwhelming.||If this is the quality the Manor Hotel can manage without their full team, then I'd have to suggest they pair back how many guests they can accommodate, at least until the rest of the family is...

ย ย ย Read moreWe have been going to the Manor Hotel for the last 34 years and over that period we have had a wonderful stay on every occasion, with the welcoming staff, Dave being in charge and being helped by his capable and friendly staff, This until the last visit. We booked for a 4 night stay between 29th sept 20 / 3rd Oct 20, for my mother funeral along with my daughter and her family of two children. A young lady booked us in, not seeing any of the existing staff I assumed new owners were in charge. On the first evening in the bar my daughter was told to stop using her phone as it was disturbing other residents, my son-in-law complained as as he saidโ she was phoning her 14 year old daughter to make sure she was safe and wellโ, the owner then said if you donโt like it we will refund the remaining 3 days and refused to serve them any more, instructing his staff (son) to do the same I was informed the next day by the owner (Harry) who said that he may have annoyed my daughter the previous night. I said nothing and awaiting speaking with my daughter, on speaking with them we all decide to leave, and booked into the Beacon Hotel 250 yds up the road for the rest of our stay. Over the years we have had weddings funerals and many family stays and gathering at this hotel being and on every occasion they did there very best to ensure our stay was a memorable one. never again will we pass the threshold of this establishment. And Harry a personal message to you โ to slander a ex employee off yours and speak about his personal life, i feel beggars belief and if Dave the (ex manager) wants to contact me, I well tell you what Harry said. All this at 7:30...
