The Strand Inn — Restaurant in East Devon

As a local I visited the above establishment yesterday early evening to have a few birthday drinks with two of my sons and three friends.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a member of staff, possibly bar manager. I asked if there were any tables available, to which the chap replied yes they have one table available in the courtyard for six. He asked how many were in our group, I advised six. The staff member then asked if it was all young lads, I advised with the exception of me yes. The man then refused access on these grounds. I removed my hat (not that it should have been necessary) to reveal my grey hair pointing out I was actually 52!

This made no difference the biased individual had already formed an opinion without rhyme nor reason and turned us away.

For me, I have never been so embarrassed or humiliated in all my life. It was my understanding that the hospitality industry had been hit quite hard during these unprecedented times, yet they can allow staff to discriminate against hard working honest individuals. Absolutely disgusting, the individual involved should be ashamed of himself, what example is this teaching young men when they are treated this way.

I for one will never set the foot in the place again, I will gladly give other local businesses my business. I will also make every effort to encourage family and friends to avoid such a premise where visitors are treated so appallingly, no doubt the young men I was with will...

Was very disappointed this time when we visited the strand friday 22nd sept 2023 was ok but saturday 23rd different story .you advertise youre hrs to 1am yet sat u rang bell at 12 we got a drink half beer and a gin 5 mins later u sent female bouncer to tell us to drink up 5 min later u sent male bouncer to tell us to leave i said thought u were open to 1 female said between 12 and 1 they do what they like so i said we are not too know that grumpy bar manager said thats why i rang bell u still advertise until 1 if he told us we had 5 min to drink up we wouldnt have bothered would have gone somewhere else very unprofessional his last words were dodnt see why i should stay open do 4 people can drink 2 wasnt drinking and we were just finishing do embaressing as we are 56 and 70 yrs old .my brother lives here and he wont go here has had issues .would i come again only if grumpy isint there as were made to feel un welcome so sunday night went weatherspoons and made to...

Was only on a visit,as me and my wife on Holiday not been to Exmouth for years parked up was Raining so looked for pub came here asked if dog friendly young girl at bar " yes it is " came in sit brightside of doorway put my Husky under table 2 local chaps really descent of them said beautiful dog they had even came up fussed him 1 local chap said to some local snotty nose lady don't sit by them they have a dog he's not large he's medium they deliberately sat right by us with their Yapping small dog which set mine off to that lady thanks you ruined our stay.Pub is and sounds good on Reviews but people don't listen so there for we left Lady with small dog your disgusting.
