Old Cross Tavern — Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

I visited last night with a friend as I considered they were quite good at enforcing safety measures to protect their customers from this deadly Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, they allowed an unmasked customer to breath all over us while looking at the price list. The customer became threatening and aggressive when I politely challenged him and asked me to 'take it up outside'. The staff member totally dismissed our concerns and defended the customer saying that they can't stop customers from not wearing a mask. This stance simply added fuel to the flames and put our safety at further risk. What I do know is that the pub has a legal Duty of Care for my Health & Safety and I am making enquiries with the relevant bodies today to establish if a breach of the law has taken place, and also to challenge their fitness to hold a Licence to trade and accommodate the public. The least they could have done was challenge the customer at point of entry just as many other pubs across Hertford and the rest of the UK do. It seems they put business revenue before the welfare of other vulnerable customers such as myself who has underlying conditions. Didn't try the snacks on offer. I just went in for an Ale after work. Staff are very welcoming, and the place is dog friendly. Lovely customer base and a great range of ale to choose from. It was expensive compared to Northamptonshire but reasonably priced compared to other local venues. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Went for a one quite drink with my 5 month old daughter. Got told we would have to drink outside as no kids allowed, it was 16:00 in the afternoon. Got told this by the owner who was very rude in the way it was said .Ended up going to the white heart who were more the accommodating and said this wasn't the first time they had heard of this happing.
