One of the better Wetherspoons I've been to, and also one of the better pubs in Skegness. It is located just across the train station, so it's ideal for a dinner or final drink before you're leaving - and it's also superior to The Lumley right across the street.

The décor is appealing (all dark wood), eschewing the familiar Spoon colours. ;)

Food options (... clubs, etc) are the same as in every other spoon, and there's a healthy selection of real ales at even healthier prices (UKP 1.99 for most, cheapest real ale in the area).

Outside seating is provided at the front, but of course the road crossing at the station is rather busy indeed.

Second visit: The Red Lion is one of two (Count 'em: 2!) Cask Marque pubs in all of Skegness, which should give you a hint that it is not a real-ale town. There is a not a single really good pub in this place, and - on paper - The Red Lion, which you'll find diagonally across from the train station, should be your best option. And it normally is: It's a Spoon, and the Spoons are normally considered a solid option for real-ale lovers. Not in this case. The pint I had had gone bad, oxidized. That really shouldn't happen: Obviously, the cask had been kept for too long (normally, a cask has to be finished within 3 days, or else you'll run a risk that the beer goes...

We decided to have breakfast at the Red lion and it was terrible.

After camping out the night before we decided to get something warm for breakfast, knowing weatherspoons pretty well from back home we decided that it would be best for us to eat at.

We ordered 2 large breakfasts 1 traditional a bacon sandwich and beans on toast.

The lass with blond hair served us, she was polite and quick in taking our order.

We sat at our table in the corner waiting for our food. The table was sticky and a slight smell came from it like old beer.

It seem to take ages for the food to come, but when your hungry it may have just seemed like that.

When the food came to our table we found it to be cool and not hot.

The hash browns were burnt on the edges but still white in the middles and cold, the eggs were like rubber.

The strange thing about the food was the beans and toast was really hot.

I think they have changed the sausages as they had a herbs taste to them and were not to our liking.

We didn't get curtsy checked while there, and we didn't complain as they had a que at the bar.

Needless to say it wasn't anywhere as nice as the spoons on wood seats in Sheffield.

I know the place is cheap to eat at, and we still love going to spoons but we won't be going back...

Great location, as with all wetherspoons the atmosphere was great. BUT on the 15th of July, my partner, our 2 friends and I decided we fancied a meal and a drink, so chose The Red Lion to do so. Big mistake.

  1. The Magners friend 1 ordered was either flat or gone off, so he complained, Amy who dealt with the complaint rightfully put an unavailable sign on the pump, but as we were finishing up, we heard another customer make the same complaint after she ordered a pint. As we left, we glanced at the bar, and the unavailable sign had been removed.

  2. Friend 2 ordered a glass of Rose wine and the glass had lipstick all around the rim, needless to say, that was returned instantly. A new glass was given.

  3. My partners lasagna was stone cold throughout and the side salad had dead leaves in it. She also ordered grilled halloumi which tasted gone off.

  4. Friend 1's replacement drink of Kopperburg was flat, and the glass had a nice layer of lime scale around the rim.

Complaints 3 & 4 were dealt with by David. The lasagna and halloumi was refunded and kitchen staff were made aware, and the bar staff were made aware of the poor quality of washed glasses. Although this shouldn't have happened to begin with, David made sure it would not...

The food is okay but the pizza was a little sad to look at (and eat). I tend to order the same meal at every Wetherspoons so i have a lot of versions to compare it to and the lack of toppings was significant. I could see pizza base in loads of places and the 'crust' was almost an inch wide. It tasted nice enough but was a bit of a let down. My friend ordered the same meal and hers was so much better. Could have come from a different pub quite honestly. They are also not the most accessible for powered mobility aids. They have an internal ramp but it's narrow and there is nowhere to turn around once up it as the aisle between tables is very narrow. The staff were lovely and I would go back but not with the person I visited with on this occasion as she struggled physically while in their.

Went to the bar twice last Saturday lunchtime, ...got ripped off twice by same bar-woman (I think she may even have been the manager ..). Charged me £2.20 for a beer that had a £1.49 price tag at the pump-front..., when challenged she just said it had been priced wrong (so still took £2.20 off me..). I liked the beer so went back for a 2nd pint a little later, I took a fiver with me...when I checked my change I got £1.80 back, so overcharged by a pound... I was back at my seat by then so doubted she would believe me if I went back up to point it out so I just wrote it off.... Shalln't be rushing back there ..! The barstaff on the photo is not the woman concerned tho...she was tall, probably 40s, seemed to be in charge ...
