Firstly, it’s taken me far too long to get to this, but I had my wedding reception at the Grosvenor in September literally, the Friday before we went into another lockdown. My husband (still sounds odd!) and I had postponed, rearranged, then cancelled our wedding all due to covid.
After cancelling we realised that getting married and starting our new life together was more important than having the dream wedding and that with the covid restrictions in place, we could do that at least a few close friends and family before we lost the chance altogether! So, following some crazy phone calls to registry offices, wedding venues, restaurants and pubs - we had booked Felixstowe town hall to get married in & the Grosvenor to have our reception.
This is where Leo and the team at the Grosvenor really shine. Leo literally couldn’t do more to make us feel welcome, cared for and valued. He offered decorations, the beer garden, taxis, lifts in his & staff cars in case we got stuck and then some. He even let us tweak the menu to make room for a few people who had dietary requirements.
After getting married at the town hall we arrived at the Grosvenor with everyone and it was AMAZING, they had decorated the tables, all off their own back, and even given us a big bottle complete with paper for people write messages on to us! We were both just blown away really. The team at the pub looked after us so well, drinks were flowing, the food was outstanding and all arrived at the same time, everyone had a brilliant time and what makes it more amazing is that it was all completed within covid guidelines, aside from the very obvious visors and masks that the staff had to wear, they carried themselves with such professionalism, it simply looked & felt completely normal in the best way.
The challenge of trying to get married in the middle of a pandemic really taught me a lot, covid restrictions, government legislation, venue requirements, registry processes, but most importantly, I learnt that having THE dress, THE venue and THE wedding, isn’t even important, it really is the people that you have around you (including the staff of the companies helping) and if anything, we had MORE fun doing it this way.
We really cannot thank or speak highly enough of everyone at the Grosvenor, it is a night that none of us will forget for all the right reasons, and none of us will forget how the team at the Grosvenor played pretty much the whole part in making that possible.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. If we could give more stars, we would! Jess & Cab K
Ps. Sorry it’s taken me so long...
Read moreNo. Never again. Staff argumentative and rude. Food overcooked and inedible.
Dan Grover argumentatively kept quoting the small print on the menu when we tried to order, saying the things that we want to order “doesn’t provide the pub with profit; they serve it at a loss”. The profit / loss is not the customers’ concern. Other staff friendly and helpful and allow us to order without issue but the argumentative member of staff keeps butting in and saying that we’re in the wrong for ordering 3 meals that the pub clearly serves. He needs to reflect what being in the service industry means.
The food really wasnt worth all the hassle. The “roast beef served pink” was so overcooked and rubbery it was inedible. Tough and definitely not pink. The carrots were tinned, the cauliflower overcooked with zero flavour. The only edible thing on the plate were the roast potatoes - these were delicious. We won’t be back even if you paid us.
I’ve been in a few Greene King pubs lately - all with argumentative members of staff. It’s a shame. I think more training is needed.
response to reply from pub
Dan Grover’s incorrect recollection of the reality that happened just proves our point about how argumentative this pub is. The rules are not the issue - if the rules are a particular way simply state them with respect. Our issue is the argumentative and rude way we were spoken to. Dan didn’t let us finish our order before shutting us down. Even if Dan’s account of what happened was correct, there are very easy ways of informing customers respectfully without the accusative and argumentative tone it was done in. We did clearly express our disgust with the inedible food served but the reply from a young male member of staff was simply “Oh.”
We will be taking...
Read moreIt's very rare that I give a 5 star rating. However, this ticks all the boxes for me. This wonderful venue is a short walk from the high street. There is plenty of off-street parking in a well lit area. Large inviting entrance with a great, wonderful homely feel throughout. The whole venue, including the toilets, was immensely clean, and the staff were really friendly and helpful with seating and menu options. Love this. It was Burger & Pint Wednesday £10 (see pictures). I chose the Bacon & Blue Cheese option, a huge succulent beef burger smashed on the grill from 2x3oz beef patties(wow) topped with blue cheese, smoked streaky bacon, crispy onions and red onion chutney, fresh lettuce leaves and 2 slices of fresh juicy tomato, on a tasty brioche bun. Accompanied by rosemary sea salted skin on fries, 2 onion rings, and a pot of texan bbq sauce. Oh, and a Guinness. All for £10. Yes! £10. I would say whether you are in the area or visiting surrounding areas, you MUST visit the Grosvenor and enjoy a homely, well cooked treat. This has surpassed Burger King or any other private burger establishment that you'd pay in excess of £15+ just for the meal alone. I want another burger 🤣🤣 I did not have a desert, though a customer sitting next to me did. Check out the Triple Chocolate Brownie with cookie crumble and clotted ice cream £5.99. I had no room, though, was jealous (see pictures). Pet...
