Pre-booked for two in a Saturday evening. When we arrived the table was ready and we were sat straight down at 6:30. Whilst the food was nice, and the servers were friendly and welcoming, it took almost an hour and a half to get our food. We had poppadoms to begin, and eventually someone came to take our order. By the time the food came we were wondering if we'd been forgotten about! The Hyderabadi biriani (£12.95) was nicely presented and well cooked. However, it had no heat at all which was unusual. The reason I ordered tgis was because I'd tried it at a restaurant in Ipswich and it was very nicely spiced and tasty. The Chicken tikka biriani (£12.95) was nice, and overall the food is good. Veg samosa (£4.50), Keema naan (£3.95) pint of Kingfisher (£6.95) so prices are in line with other places. The keema nanny wasn't a keema naan, but a plain naan and I couldn't be bothered to ask to have it changed as we'd already waited too long for food. Overall a nice place, but the service is too slow and spoils the experience a bit. The decor is quite nice, but the table layout is quite boring and would be nicer if it was less train carriage and more...
Read moreBeware rip off traps! Food was good without fault. However I ordered salty lasi (basically a thin yoghurt drink) which was not on the menu. They delivered without a fuss and it came not inside a glass but inside a jar (two glasses) but when I paid they charged me a total of 15 (!)Pounds for the Lassi, which was almost double the food total for the drink, more expensive than any beer or wine.. There was no indication of this cost or surcharge until payment. When I queried the price, they said it was because they specially made it. Almost all restaurants make it themselves. Even if that was a double serving due to the jar, you would not expect to pay more than 2x4 50 or 2x 5 pounds. I was close to refuse the bill. I will never come back. Rip off! Also, the toilets and stairs to toilets were not as clean as could be and the stairs were slippery. No wheelchair...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Visited Shapla with my children and sister two nights ago and we all loved it!! The staff were friendly and the manager spent time explaining the different flavours. I was unsure what to choose so he offered to make something based on my preferences. Delicious. There wasn’t much left over but I didn’t want to leave it! So I took it home!
Definitely worth a visit. Best Indian I’ve found locally.
I’ve read some of the other reviews and can’t understand how unkind people can be. The pictures of the food look scrummy and I’ve been going to the Shapla for over 9 years and never had any issues. Some people just love to have a good moan about everything! DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!! My most favourite...
