Gelato Famoso Ice Cream Parlour — Restaurant in Eastbourne

The food was lovely however under the covid restrictions I felt it was not controlled in the seating area, customer were just walking in and taking seats rather than follow the signs to order at the counter then go get a seat, this caused a lot of confusion and it being rather cramp at one point with no social distancing, the customers who had followed the cafe's rules and ordered at the countered had no seats to go to because people were just walking in taking the seats then going and ordering, the customers in the queue who had already paid and followed the cafe rules had no where to sit, it was a bit out of control, people was just sitting at the tables even if The tables and chairs had not been cleaned/sanitised and had dirty plates etc on. It got that busy my partner and I stopped eating our food put our masks on, got up and walked out as we did not feel safe under the covid restrictions. We would visit again but it would have to have stricter covid control in the seating area, we did not feel...

The ice cream it is quite good, the location is great, unfortunately I can’t say the same about the weird rule of “ no cones or tubs to be eaten in the restaurant”, you are only allowed inside if you have the ice cream in a dish and the cone separately🤦🏽, it doesn’t matter what you order to sit in the restaurant, you are not having the ice cream in the cone… complete nonsense! So we were dispatched outside in the rain since my children wanted a normal ice cream, not a deconstructed ice cream… not friendly and I mentioned my girls birthday and nobody wished her happy birthday. Very disappointing and unwelcoming service. They could offer no explanation for the rule of not eating a cone or tub in their restaurant. You could be wanting a tea/coffee or 3 course meal but the rule...

Used to be one of the best ice cream parlours in Eastbourne which I always made part of visit for last 15years of coming to Eastbourne sadly will be my last the real pieces of fudge cake that used to be in fudge brownie sundae have been replaced by processed chips of brownie which were a cross between chocolate chip and lump of sugar when I questioned the manageress she said it was always like that ! Well maybe it was since last August when I visited and I don’t recall seeing her there or any of the members of staff present gone were all the original staff maybe it’s been sold to a chain who prefer profit over original quality and service. Stay true to your ethos of being a quality Italian ice cream family and stop putting profit over reputation...
