I have been going here for years, but to my surprise on my last visit I found the staff really rude and unhelpful. I have always purchased Dairy free/Vegan cakes here as have been told in the past by management that the cakes are on a separate tray away from the other stock, with a different set of tongs specifically for allergies. BUT when I went in recently I found that the cakes are actually touching other cakes with dairy in as well as staff not using separate tongs. When I asked the member of staff what had changed, I was told that they are very busy and did I want the cakes! I appreciate that it can be busy but that doesn't mean the staff can be rude to their customers or put mine or anyone else's health at risk. I really hope that no one has an allergic reaction because of this!

Friendly service, a great local business! I've been in before a couple of times but today I forgot to buy lunch things so popped in for something while I waited for the bus. £3.70 for a HUMONGOUS coronation chicken bap, absolutely brimming and really tasty! If you're still getting meal deals from the supermarket after reading this do yourself and your tummy a favour and buy your lunch here because you'd be absolutely insane not to!!!

Lovely selection of cakes, loaves of bread, rolls and sandwich fillings to be made up into sandwiches. Around 70p for a bread roll. The sunflower seed ones were delicious and well baked. There's seating inside and outside. Not open Sundays.

I recently had a disappointing experience at this bakery that I feel compelled to share. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that the lady serving us had no interest in being there—or in us being there, for that matter. Her attitude was downright hostile, and she made us feel like an inconvenience rather than customers.

When I politely asked if she could heat up our food, she flat-out refused, without any explanation. Later, when I tried to order additional items, she snapped at me, making the entire experience incredibly uncomfortable. Additionally, this member of staff inferred that my friend meant to steal some items.

As for the food itself, it was just as bad as the service. Everything we ordered was stale, cold, and completely devoid of any flavor. It’s hard to believe this place is still in business with such poor quality and unfriendly staff. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else—this bakery is not worth your...

@pisquareroot James. I'm not a regular customer of Poppyseed, I'm actually a competitor. I'm head baker of another Sussex bakery and also compete against Lee and his team at national bakery awards. So perhaps it's in my interests to agree with you but I cannot. What you say is nonsense. You say they do not make their products. Where do they get them from then? Please tell. There are not the bakeries that make to such a high standard locally, except for us. And they don't buy from us, so where? You don't understand the business, in fact you seem the type to talk without much foundation - as in your post about an insecure shop manager. Please, if you intend to cast such serious aspersions upon people, their integrity, their livelihood and that of their employees please back it up with some proof. In this instance, as you have none, better to keep your...
