A big group of us visited Tristan’s for a 75th birthday celebration. It’s always lovely to get the family together but unfortunately our night was not that enjoyable.
We were seated in the back room which was fine, as mentioned we were a big group, the only thing was it was freezing in there and both my elderly grandparents ate their whole meal in their coat and scarves.
The other thing was as this room was at the end of the long corridor, which you had to walk past the serving hatch to get to, the smell of grease seemed to waft towards us. This was very off putting when trying to eat.
I have coeliac disease so must follow a strict gluten free diet, we had to do a pre-order which I made clear I needed to be GF. I emailed with the restaurant to discuss my options and they said they would be able to mix and match some of the items on the menu. This was also confirmed on the telephone when pre-ordering.
Upon getting to the restaurant and having our food served, I was given something that obviously contained gluten (some grains) along side salad leaves and halloumi. I questioned this with the waiter who told me it wasn’t GF and that he would go and get me a replacement. They had obviously just removed the grains and put the leaves and halloumi back on the plate. I said to them that this wasn’t even what I ordered, I spoke to the chef who grunted at me he was never told, eventually after everyone else had finished eating, I got my main that I had ordered. For puddings, the waiter said to me they had my DAIRY FREE pudding all ready for me… as someone with dietary requirements, it can be really unnerving to go to places and eat for the first time. For the staff to not understand or take it seriously is just not good enough, you shouldn’t have to question every single thing you are served. Needless to say, an upset tummy was had for the next few days.
Then it came to paying...they had added things on to our bill that we hadn’t even ordered. Overall not a great experience and to be honest with you, I very much doubt we...
Read moreHad dinner here at the end of March (sorry, forgot to review!) and the team were FANTASTIC. My partner is gluten free coeliac, which I added to the notes when booking online. The next day I received an email from Georgie with a colour coded menu, of everything that was either already gluten free as standard, could be made gluten free (either by preorder or on the night - a great sign of proficient and flexible chefs) or not gluten free. Almost everything on the menu was either already gluten free or could be made gluten free, my partner couldn't believe how much choice he had. Georgie was quick to respond via email and when we arrived for our meal she already had a gluten free menu ready for my partner. Everyone's service was fantastic and each time our meals were brought over, it didn't matter who by, they confirmed to my partner it was gluten free without having to be prompted. This was so reassuring for him as someone with an intolerance/allergy, as eating out can feel a bit stressful otherwise. Not only was the service brilliant, the food was delicious too! The arancini starter and pork belly main I had were perfect! They change their menu regularly (again, another sign of skilled, creative chefs) so we will definitely be back, thank...
Read moreWe booked after reading reviews on Google and we were not disappointed!
We booked an early dinner shortly after opening and we found service was attentive but not overbearing throughout our meal even as other diners were seated and the restaurant was getting into the swing of a Saturday evening service.
There is a great selection of drinks to choose from that would suit all tastes.
We liked the menu which we could see having read online is rotated. Our choices today were Grilled Brie & Thai Yellow Curry to start the latter was offered as both a veggie option and a main course. For the main event it was Confit Duck and a local TBone Steak (£10 supp) although there were so many other options that sounded tempting. Both dishes were well cooked and full of flavour. To round off our meal we opted for Chocolate Orange Crème Brûlée and Bread & Butter Pudding with Sultanas & Apricot Jam served with Custard.
Will we be back - Definitely but who will we share this gem with…?
Sadly no dessert pics (too...
