All I can say is 'wow'! This is now my go to Indian takeaway and I look forward to when the restaurant is fully open again so I can book a table. Parts of the menu are unlike any other Indian takeaway/restaurant around here. The Kolkati Roll is the best 'wrap' I've ever eaten and I could eat the Kachumber salad all day! The chicken tikka starter was very subtle when it came to spice and the chicken was beautifully moist (every chicken tikka starter I've ever had from other takeaways/restaurants has always been on the dry side). The Railway chicken curry is absolutely delicious. Just about medium strength and beautifully spiced and a very pleasant after kick. I cannot recommend 29 Spices highly enough.
Unfortunately I have had several issues with the food and service since I posted the above review but the delivery I had last night was the straw that broke this camel's back. The Kachumber salad I ordered was nothing like what I'd had previously. Mostly lettuce with very little tomato or cucumber. The one I had in the first review I posted was all tomato, cucumber and onion with spices. This one was not only poor but at £3.75 was also extremely poor value as was the mixed platter starter. I'd also had this previously and was impressed not only with the flavours but also the large pieces of chicken and lamb. The one I had last night had small pieces of meat, (the pieces of lamb in particular were very small), there was no onion bhaji and the small samosa was very soggy and limp. It cost £6.95 and was extremely disappointing especially at that price. The Pondicherry lamb curry was delicious though. That said, I won't be ordering again. There have now been far too many issues regarding previous deliveries and service ( I was once kept waiting on the phone for nearly 10 minutes after being asked to hold for a few seconds). A pity because some of the food is...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at 29 Spices, and it was an unforgettable experience! This restaurant masterfully blends the rich flavors of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, creating dishes that are both authentic and incredibly delicious. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a beautifully designed interior that perfectly complements the vibrant food on offer.
The menu is diverse and caters to a wide range of tastes, whether you're in the mood for something spicy, mild, or somewhere in between. I highly recommend trying the Delhi Samosa Chat and the Rara Gost Lamb—both were cooked to perfection, with just the right balance of spices. The naan was soft, warm, and the perfect accompaniment to the flavorful curries.
What truly sets 29 Spices apart is their attention to detail. Every dish is presented beautifully, and you can tell that the chefs take great pride in their craft. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.
Overall, 29 Spices is a gem in the world of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. Whether you're a fan of these flavors or trying them for the first time, this restaurant is sure to impress. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu. Highly...
Read moreFinding an Indian restaurant that truly honours the depth and tradition of the cuisine can be rare, but this spot in Bournemouth does exactly that. What immediately stood out to me was the menu—it wasn’t just the usual favourites but also a selection of vintage recipes and house specials, offering an authentic taste of Indian culinary heritage.
We ordered Lamb Korma, Lamb Tikka Pasanda, Poratha, and Cheese & Garlic Naan. The Lamb Korma was a masterclass in balance—rich, creamy, and aromatic, with just the right amount of sweetness from coconut. The lamb itself was incredibly tender, having absorbed the depth of the sauce beautifully. The Lamb Tikka Pasanda was just as impressive, with a silky, rose water-infused sauce that had a wonderful complexity.
The Poratha was everything you want from a good Indian flatbread—flaky, buttery, and perfect for scooping up the sauces. The Cheese & Garlic Naan was another highlight with the garlic adding a robust depth while the cheese provided a deliciously indulgent touch.
Service was exceptional—attentive, warm, and genuinely keen on making sure we had the best possible experience. They were happy to offer recommendations which added to the overall charm...
