Akash Restaurant & Takeaway — Restaurant in England

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT! We have been eating at the Akash for about 30 years. This is not the same restaurant & food! This restaurant has changed ownership. We didn't like the "new look" of the place, it felt very much like a cafe & the lighting was harsh & not cosy. The food was ok, nothing to complain about but the depth of flavour & quality of the dishes was simply absent. The meat was in quite small pieces & didnt have that intense marinated flavour. It tasted like plain cooked chicken dropped in a thin sauce...quite frankly I can do that & better at home. As I say, nothing in particular to complain about per se, but compared to the previous quality & flavour of the food, it appears to have departed with the original owners. The staff were attentive & friendly. The pricing no longer reflects the quality of food. This feels like a more commercialised restaurant tather than the previous traditional family run restaurant. I have known the Akash for over 30 years and the food has been consistently good that is until today

It was so disgracefully bad that I was driven to phone them as I suspected the business had been sold.

The good news is that it hasn’t been sold but the chef is on vacation and won’t be back for 4 weeks

For those of us that love the Akash I would suggest steer clear until March seriously it was disgusting

My only credit is for the staff who have always been curteous and helpful and pleasingly the staff have not changed

This restaurant really is a hidden gem, small and unassuming from the street you enter into a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Greeted by pleasant and well mannered staff who are eager to please and give you an experience to remember. Both times I have dined here the food has been delicious. Non greasy and made with the freshest of ingredients just how indian cuisine should be.
