Edit: Yikes! Do you stalk and harass all your 1-star reviewers on social media? I now fear for my safety after the threats I received. And as previously said, we didn't say anything because we attributed it to the cuisine. How would a private e-mail be a hoax, what would be gained from it? You could have responded to the e-mail with the same answers you gave here, and a review wouldn't have been necessary.
Since you asked for proof, I've attached my receipt (and the chips because the basket was cute). Enjoy scouring your security footage of our table, sounds exhausting.
I've used an internet archiver to permanently document your response, so don't bother editing the social media part out.
Nice atmosphere. However, I am now 100% aware that they served our calamari with spoiled tartar sauce, which tasted exactly like the smell of a dumpster.
We were naïve thinking that maybe the tartar sauce was odd due to the unusual cuisine, but upon looking at photos from other customers, this dark gray tartar sauce that tasted of dumpster juice was definitely rotten and explains why we couldn't bring ourselves to eat it.
Very disgusted the entire staff had the audacity to serve rotten tartar at these prices, very disappointed in us for not questioning it, and offended that they have ignored my e-mail asking about it.
Amanzi would have earned at least 4 stars but the above factors are so beyond unacceptable that I wish I could give them 0. I have never left a restaurant review online but I could not let this one slide. Shame on you and your...
Read moreMy son booked for his birthday and could only get a table at 5pm. We had a little chuckle when we arrived to a completely empty restaurant, thinking maybe the early table had been unnecessary, however by 6 the restaurant was full.
Service was very good, attentive but not ott, and very helpful. Food was lovely. My sun had the Ostrich which he said was very good. My husband had the Bobotie, which was very nice taste wise, but he was not so keen on the texture. Can't take any stars off for this as the taste was very nice, and disliking a texture is subjective. I had the steak which was definitely the best dish. Beautifully cooked, incredible flavour. The garlic butter dripping down the steak onto the chips below (which were amazing btw) was such a good addition.
Starters were also lovely. For dessert we had malva and the mud cake. FYI, the malva had the texture of bread pudding, something I'm not so keen on. The taste was again spot on though. My husband loves that more dense type cake though, so again, you can't say it's a negative as it's a personal opinion, and I imagine this is how it's meant to be.
I would say it's a touch expensive, but that would not stop us going back at all, it really was a very...
Read moreA restaurant with a big difference
Not having ventured into South African cuisine before we didn’t know what to expect, The restaurant is themed with wooden hut tin roofs and African artefacts including a portrait of the great Nelson Mendala. Service is excellent, not rushed, a happy greeting on arrival which continue throughout the visit.
The menu we where informed is typical of South Africa, mainly Fish and Meat. We shared a starter of Boerewors, South African sausage served with chakalaka and sadza chips. The sausage was deliciously spicy as was the chakalaka (mixed medley of spiced vegetables). My wife chose the Hake fillet with chorizo, spinach and new potatoes, totally delicious with fish cooked to perfection. I chose the Espetada, char-grilled, marinated rump steak cubes on a hanging skewer with peppers and shallots, served with chunky chips and garlic butter. The butter parcel at the top of the skewer, when squeezed oozes the garlic butter over the meat down onto the chunky chips below. The steak is marinated with a slightly sweet finish, amazing and perfectly cooked with charred edges. The food was faultless, good service, reasonable prices, we can totally recommend this restaurant, we...
