We recently celebrated a birthday at the charming Amici's, and I can't help but rave about the exceptional experience we had. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Mauros amazing team, setting the tone for a truly memorable evening.
The ambiance at Amici's is nothing short of enchanting. The buzzy, chatty, and vibrant atmosphere combined with the nod to Italian décor immediately transported us to the heart of Italy. It was the perfect setting for our special celebration, making us feel like we were in an intimate trattoria in the heart of Tuscany.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food. Mauro and his culinary team are absolute maestros in the kitchen. The menu is a symphony of flavours, showcasing the richness and diversity of Italian cuisine. Every dish was a masterpiece, prepared with the finest ingredients and a genuine passion for perfection.
We started with a delightful assortment of starters, each bite bursting with freshness and authenticity. The pasta dishes were a revelation, perfectly al dente and generously coated in rich, flavourful sauces that had us savouring every mouthful. The mains were equally impressive, with a variety of expertly cooked meats especially the special of the day duck breast that left us craving for more.
What truly sets Amici's apart is the impeccable service. Mauro and his team went above and beyond to ensure our celebration was flawless. Accommodating special requests, their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction were evident throughout the evening. The staff's genuine warmth and hospitality created an atmosphere that felt like we were among friends.
In conclusion, Amici's is a gem in the Torquay culinary scene, and Mauro and his team have truly mastered the art of creating an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving an authentic taste of Italy, this restaurant is a must-visit. Grazie mille, Mauro and team, for an evening filled with laughter, delectable dishes, and wonderful memories. We'll be back for more molto...
Read moreOrdered asparagus and got 2 stems for £13 and wasn't cooked. It had 4 rolls of ham, and a split up buffalo cheese, with rockets.
Ordered seafood linguine and wasn't much clams, 4 king prawns, strong garlic taste that follows you till next day even when brushing teeth and mouthwash. Beginning had no flavour and flavour came from the pile of paramsean cheese (a lot of it) which dissolved quickly into the "broth". It was quite watery. Lemon was also available. The dish was filled with spicy chillies too. It tasted so bad we couldn't finish it. Wish we didn't order 2.
They had no tables inside so sat outside, there was no heater available, but we did have a blanket.
The wait for the food was 50minutes, we had paid for 1hr parking at first from behind the restaurant.
The inside was too crowded, you can't walk through as people stand in the way. The toilets were tiny, the door skims the toilet seat, so to get in you have to stand in the tiny gap between toilet and toilet brush or on the toilet. When you sit, you hit your head on the handle. The toilet door was so close to the tables, when you open the door, I hit the customer who was sat in his seat having dinner with his wife. I can imagine him getting hit all night hence the wife sat on the other side.
Disappointed birthday meal.
Normally italian restaurants have higher standards. No table cloths, no flowers, no jug of water, no normal chairs (all plastic). The chair I had was broken so you can't even lean back either.
Meal was also expensive for what...
Read moreDivided opinion in a party of three
I visited with my two adult children at the beginning of August 2016 for a late lunch. Opinion is divided in our party. For one of us the food was well prepared, the portion sizes being average, the toilets were easily accessible (there is a specifically designated disabled toilet) and the prices were reasonable for the heart of a busy seaside town. The second said the place was fine, but not their favourite. The last person did not like Amici at all. They disliked the decor (for example, the cutlery was scratched and the tablecloth had holes in it, to give it an authentic Italian look, but it just looked worn out). Also they didn't like the waitress’ attitude (being asked whether we wanted something to drink and when saying, no thank you we’ll just order, the more senior waitress coming over to double check are we sure we don't want anything to drink - yes, my opinion of whether I want a drink does not change depending on who is asking me!). The food was described by them as “OK, but I’ve tasted better Italian for these prices”. So I’m giving it three stars, as this seems to be the middle of the road and a fair reflection on the experience our group had. If it was up to me, I’d visit again, but obviously if I am visiting with the same people I wouldn’t visit again, as I want everyone to enjoy their lunch. Therefore, it’s a bit of a 50%-50% whether you’d enjoy it if you...
