I can only describe this visit as an absolute disaster and that's being fair.

We booked a table for 6 people at Ashby Lodge as we had family visiting all the way from Wales, we normally go elsewhere but with it being local, convenient and (what we thought good food) we decided to give it another go.

Upon arival we told them about the booking, gave them our name and we were pointed in the direction of a round table right in front of the bar, convenient right? Wrong.

We sat down only to realise the table had only been set for 5 people, despite on the reserved sign in the middle of the table it clearly said x6. Anyway we thought mistakes happen, grabbed another chair and sat down.

After a tough task of deciding which meal to have as they all sounded delicious, we went to the bar and ordered, and after queuing for around 10 minutes we were finally served by a friendly waitress.

Only two out of a party of 6 ordered a starter, 10 x sharing chicken fingers. Everyone else just ordered mains and puddings, after 10 minutes the starters came which wasn't bad at all. They were really tasty but as a sharer you would've expected them to be bigger.

After around 10 minutes of finishing a waitress came and asked if we were ready for our mains, which we were. Thinking that meant they were nearly ready to come out. We were wrong.

After around 20 minutes we starting wondering how much longer it would be seeing tables that ordered after us getting served.

We started chatting between ourselves before we started getting really agitated, after working out we had been waiting for an hour one of our party members went to the bar and asked how much longer we would be waiting, after the waitress looked at the screen, he was told that there was two more plates to be done then they would be starting on ours.

She asked if we would like some nachos to snack on to which we yes. She brought out what I can only describe as a handful of nachos (to share between 6) and we nibbled away. Another 10 minutes later and our mains arrived.

We ordered; 1 Pulled BBQ pork burrito, 3 x Double Bacon Cheese Burger 1 x Gamon 1 x Chicken Caesar Salad

The burgers, gamon and burrito looked lovely however nothing similar can be said for the salad. It was laughable actually, maybe two handfuls of lettuce chucked in a bowl with less than a handful of chicken strips thrown to the side and maybe 5 crutons hidden away... That was it, no cheese, no dressing, nothing.

By definition a caesar salad is lettuce, crutons, pamermsan cheese, lemon, olive oil and cracked pepper and a caesar dressing. Most of this was stated on the menu, and for £5.99 you would think you would get a pretty tasty salad.

Let's move on to the burrito, tasteless. Even after adding the BBQ sauce the flavour was pretty dire. Also the menu stated jalapeño peppers, there was none.

Now the burgers 'tasted' nice however they were dry and only had two thin strips of bacon with a measly portion of lettuce and tomato. The fries were average, a little undercooked to be picky.

The gamon was okay but that's not really hard to get wrong.

Given the majority of meals in pubs like this are prepacked and/or prepared it's hard to imagine how it could be so disappointing.

The puddings came and to be honest we were impressed, the portions were large and they tasted lovely. We ordered 1 forest gateaux and 3 cheesecakes, only complaint would be that the portion of ice-cream with the cheesecakes wasn't enough.

I find it important to add that throughout the whole meal, the tables around us were also complaining about various things; cold food, late meals etc. And despite the staff using the excuse of it being busier than expected it was definitely not at capacity and plenty of free tables in all sections of the pub.

After this experience we definitely won't be returning here and will instead take the extra time travelling to...

Went to ashby lodge for our tea, since greene king had taken it over weve found the food to be really good aswell as the service, unfortunately tonight we had a very poor experience. My meal I ordered was really nice but my partners ordered beef lasagne with a portion of chips, she normally orders this and the lasgane is normally really nice but when it got served the lasgane didnt even fill a quarter of the dish it was served in and was burnt. The waiter who served us looked like he didnt want to be working there and when I said for a replacement he didnt mind but when asked if we could have a fresh portion of chips he looked and me as if there nothing wrong with them, but as I said we want to eat them with the lasgane, he agreed and took the portion of chips with him. While we was waiting for the beef lasagne I had to eat mine meal so it didnt get cold, not what we had planned and that shouldnt happen (eating separately). 20mins later the beef lasagne arrived with great disappointed, again not a quarter full and u could nearly see the bottom of the dish it came in and also burnt at the bottom of lasagne , the chips that were ment to be fresh portion were actually re heated ,when u get that taste of reheated chips not nice. We never even got asked how our meal was, maybe because they knew they hadn't delivered to expectations. I'm not being funny and not one to complain but come on back to basics if the presentation or food doesnt look good why bring it out???common sense. Unfortunately wont be revisiting and a...

Shocking place. Ordered on the app. Had to go to the bar to get our drinks twice because nobody could be bothered to bring them. Waited over 30 mins for desserts and it wasn't even busy. Won't be coming back.

You've asked for further details

When we got seated at the table, you encourage people to download the app to order, so we did. This is where the problem started. Everything was OK up to the point where it asks for table number. There was no table number where we were sat. Out of the other 4 tables around us, only 1 had a number. The waitress informed us of the number and proceeded with the order. After about 20 mins, 2 of the mains came out as the other 2 were carvery. We said to the waitress we were still waiting for our drinks, to which she replied she will have a look. When we got to the carvery queue we could see our drinks on the bar. Also the carvery only had gammon which I wasn't expecting. According to the carver, that's all they had. After getting back to the table just under 10 mins later, the drinks were still sitting on the bar, so we got them ourselves. We ordered another drink through the app, and the same thing happened, we had to get it ourselves. We mentioned this to the waitress and she said someone isn't doing their job right. For dessert, we ordered at the bar this time. 20 mins later, we asked the waitress where they were, and she said they were being done now. Another 20 mins passed before they came out.

You can see from this experience why I left the...

Loved it after 2 disappointing vists to 2 other pubs we landed on this gold mine carvey till opm on week days !!!! Best menu idea ever! We didn't have to sit and wait for any one to serve us drinks of cone take out orders we simply went to the bar asked for carvery and sat back down to eat it was the best meat was gorgeous but can also say I'd happily pay for a no meat carvery if wanting to have a cheaper meal it's a great option 😋 the menu we looked at looked amazing and there is some must try but tonight was all about filling up that empty tummy and that's exactly what the carvery did 💯%

This represents our view flyer 1 visit. We popped in here on the off chance as we were starving and just fancied a carvery. This place was full and stayed full while we were there at 2.30pm on a Sunday. It was great value and really tasty food, fresh tasty vegetables with a nice cooked crunch, beef was tender and cannot fault the value, we went for medium which was plenty - no waste on our plates. It is definitely a family style pub not a ‘village’ pub, which is what you would expect. Staff polite and friendly. Cannot not fault our visit.

Went to the Ashby Lodge for a family lunch while in Scunthorpe visiting my mum. Hadn't been in years as I no longer live locally, but it was obviously a popular place, with a great carvery. Had the large plate, but a medium would've been plenty! It was delicious. A word of warning though - remember to register your car at the bar when you order. I forgot until later, and the manager was still able to do it, but it was a bit more hassle that she could've probably done without on a busy Sunday. She was very nice about it though.
