Barking George — Restaurant in England

We are local and eat here often. I'll say, for the most part we never have any issues here, but I can understand the vast inconsistency of the other reviews. It's hit or miss here and the quality of food and service is extremely dependent on who is on shift. This is a very large place and always seems to have staffing shortages regardless of how busy they are. My advice for making the most of it is just go to the bar and kindly let them know if you need anything. Don't wait for them to check on you. It's often not their fault. This is a very convenient and comfy spot to rest when out and about. Nine times out of ten we're glad we came. Really wish I could say it was 100% of the time, but it is what it is. Finding good staff is really hard and any business person would understand that. The good ones always leave and then applicants are always a gamble. Food was very mediocre for the price, the venison burger was a little dry and the menu itself was a little misleading, (the waitresses words) we expected a venison patty topped with pulled venison and some blue cheese. However, what arrived was the burger with lettuce and tomato, with a venison croquet on a skewer. I got up to the bar and had to wander around until I found the five staff members gathered in a corner, I felt as though I was an inconvenience and had interrupted their conversation. When I enquired where the blue cheese was, I was told it was inside the croquet. We didn't receive any check backs until after we'd finished - the table behind us was checked on three times. Perhaps it was because the place wasn't busy, Maybe staff were taking a break? I don't a visit to see the Christmas lights up, but sadly I won't go...

We booked the restaurant for a birthday lunch after a visit to the Turkish Spa. The restaurant looks really good and the guy who served us was really helpful.

The food was our really issue, did not expect to have to order at the bar as they don't offer table service. The meals that turned up are not what you would expect from a hotel. All appear to be reheat specials with no finesse. The 3 spaghetti cardonara had no taste and the consistency of a lead brick. The Sunday lunch consisted of a little sliver of meat and 1 tiny roast spud and chemical tasting mash. The dessert cheese cake was more like a moose thrown in a bowl, it is not a slice of cheese cake.
