Viewed the website thought that the place looked nice so we took trip to Beaches over the weekend. First impressions were pleasing there was a busy vibrant atmosphere, staff were very welcoming and helpful. We ordered our food and drinks which all came out at acceptable times. The view from inside and out is spectacular really lovely looking over the Thames Estuary. We finished our food our table was cleared nicely we were asked if we would like anything else which was nice so we stayed for another drink.

Toilets and facilities were very clean all staff were busy if not running food to customers they were polishing table tops and cleaning the table bases which was nice to see.

My wife asked a member of staff how long the business had been there to which she was unsure but did mention that that it had undergone a refurb and more than doubled in size the decor was fresh and modern very pleasing for that stretch of the seafront.

What we did think was a shame was the amount of people coming in to use the toilets that hadn't eaten in the restaurant they seemed to either think that it was a public convenience or a changing room to change out out their wet shorts or swim suits.

We did however notice staff asking kindly if they were none customers to use the toilets provided a minutes walk away which we thought was fair.

We will be visiting Beaches on our next trip to Southend..

We run our own business and understand how hard it is. I noticed the comment's made by Lisa Moore and Gary Moore.. To write a review that gives a true reflection of a business is one thing but to leave a review thats is factually incorrect is shameful.

My family and i were standing outside when i assume the (owner) was explaining to you both why the toilets were not to be used as a changing room which we agree with. He was using words such as sir, I'm sorry that you feel this way he was trying to explain that sand and wet cloths make the floor (stairs and toilets dirty and slippery) which in turn makes them unsafe for other customers and less importantly but still a fact unclean for restaurant customers.

The language that Mr Moore chose to use was aggressive and uncalled for then as the conversation continued Mr & Mrs Moore's friends and family decided it to be correct to pretty much surround the owner and all shoot remarks at him whilst not listening to his reasoning.

The group commented that they didn't see a problem with using the restaurant toilets as a changing room and also commented that the other children had all got changed out of their wet costume's in the restaurant anyhow.

So then to see these two posts from a husband and wife over something that in my opinion is was straight forward is disgraceful and totally unjustified.

After the Moores left i spoke to the owner very briefly as he was busy i told him that i would write a review as we totally enjoyed the our experience at Beaches. He thanked me we went on our way. My intention of this review was to highlight the business a business that has invested largely in both money and time to create a lovely place to visit not to highlight two individual (Mr & Mrs Moore) that should be ashamed of themselves that they deem it to be fair to leave false in incorrect information in their reviews.. Google should remove there comments as they are totally misleading...

Unfortunately if I could give this 0 stars I would. Incredibly rude and patronising attitude from one tall, short straight hair waiter and a short woman wearing blazers that is the manager (the rest of the waiters and bar staff were lovely and can tell put up with a lot).

We were sat down and placed our order, not minutes after it was brought and getting our first chew of the food we were asked to pay immediately. I asked politely if we could pay after we finished and were told no. Feeling rushed, I paid and then asked for the VAT receipt so i could check everything was charged correctly food items etc. We were refused? When inquired why was just told "we just don't do them". Increasingly confused i asked to speak to the manager, who told me "I can give you a note written by hand because our system is old and does not print receipts". I told her that's not possible as they are required for end of night cash outs and general accounting and she told me "she's been doing this for 20 years so I don't need to tell her how the business is run". She was very rude and patronising and sushed other members of my family when trying to talk.

We asked if we could smoke on the terrace and got told no, so we went down the steps of their back entrance and smoked there. We were refused to be allowed back inside? Because it's policy for them that if you walk through the door that is clearly open and allows trafic in and out that you are no longer allowed in? Rude and clear attempt to get rid of us.

At which point I went inside to ask for her details as I want to take this issue further. Asked for business email, phone number and a name. She asked me "why would you need it?". It's definitely not to take you out on a date hun, I want to make a complaint obviously. She refused to provide any, sent a waiter with a note out with an info email, which was not a management email and name as I asked. I believe her name is Maria, very unprofessional and unfit to run a venue that could otherwise be lovely with someone who's 20 years of experience would be a bit more visible.

The behaviour encountered suggests the business is fraudulent and HMRC will be hearing of it soon. I hope you treat your staff better than your customers, because they are lovely and hard working, and deserve fair wages to reflect that.

Ridiculous and would avoid...

I’ve been today at this place with my family (for a long time couldn’t catch together because we’re never free at the same time)hoping to share a great time and a good food on this place. SURPRISE-everything goes wrong from the beginning. We haven’t got the food yet and was asking to pay straight away. We wanted to go down the stairs (we’ve been the last table on the edge off the terassa with the 5 stairs ,next to our table )to the beach-exactly in front off that terassa to have a cigarette .I was told by one of the waiters that we’re not allowed to come back to our table (the waitress who’s serving us allowed us to go)and this is the Cafe policy??? Really? On top off all this the manager was very rude and unprofessional , arguing with me, my son, my daughter , shush to us because we’re asking for a proper receipt and not a hand written one. The explanation was that:”We don’t do things like this here, and I’m in this business for 20 years “ Again I would say-Really? I don’t know who’s the owner but I personally wouldn’t risk giving my business to a manager who’s very disrespectful towards customers, acting as she please , shush to people, refusing to give a proper receipt and not last ,throwing customers out (and not metaphorical). For sure, we will never return to this...

Visited this place in the morning around 10.30am for breakfast. Nice location right next to the seafront. As I entered I was greeted at the door immediately, no waiting.... possibly due to the poor weather and the early-ish morning. Was given some paper menus (which was a little unexpected due to Covid - I expected to have a QR code menus). Found seats outside on the balcony that were wet but were quickly squeegeed and wiped dry by a friendly waitress and as we sat she called for another waitress to take our order. One thing to note is that payment was taken before we got our food. The bistro must have its own reasons for this, and this was totally fine with me in any case! The breakfast took about 10-15 minutes to arrive and was around £10 but you get ALOT! There where chunky sausages and slightly smoked bacon, both very tasty plus two light and crispy hash browns, two roasted tomato halves, mushrooms, baked beans, a sunny side up egg and a slice of white or granary buttered toast . All was cooked really well apart from the egg which wasn't to my liking but that's personal preference. I had already started eating it before I took a picture because it looked so good! all in all it was well worth the money! I would definitely be going back if I am around the area again!

Was walking past and popped in for lunch with the family. There was somebody sat at the door like a doorman at a night club, (RED FLAG 1) that should have stopped me going in. We were greeted politely and service was quick. Once we placed orders we were told we had to pay up front. RED FLAG 2. (Look at picture) The food was at best Weatherspoons quality, I've had better chicken burgers at McDonalds. A tiny chicken burger look at the lemon on my wife's plate compared to burger (1cm thick at best), diced iceberg lettuce, a dollop of mayo served in a dry cheap bun. Chips were nice. But £14! My wife enjoyed her scampi and my child their nuggets. However, £51 for three plates with 1 beer and 2 waters. Quality is far below the price point!
