Located on the beach strip. Read a few good reviews so thought about trying this place out. The food itself was pretty average, nothing extra ordinary. 2 portions of cod fish and chips and 2 lemonades came to about £30 ish. We visted with my 2 year old sons, late lunch, so the place wasn't that busy. (June 2023). After we had finished, there were probably only 3 people in the restaurant. We asked for the bill, paid and started to walk out. A lady (assuming the manager) had just sat down to eat, came running after us and shouted, "excuse me sir, you have to pay" in a tone where everyone in the restaurant clearly heard, mind you, we were walking with my 2 year olds walking too, so you can imagine the pace and slow speed. We showed the receipt that we had paid in a normal tone and the lady then in a normal tone said 'oh right, sorry then' and walked back to her lunch. Due to this reason, the rating is what it is. If you can't keep tabs on a few customers, hate to think what it will be like when busy. Up till the end, the service was fine, and the waitresses...
Read moreReally disappointed with this place I’ve been coming on and off for the last 15 years, but I can safely say they have gone down hill! Food was by far the worst, chips were all black and burnt curry sauce was so think it didn’t move when you dipped a chip in it, and the eggs well they come out so over cooked the first time I asked for my eggs runny and I think they didn’t like me sending them back and they came out basically raw on top and burnt on the bottom. Service was really bad, sat at the table 10 minutes no waiter to be seen and when they did come over they kept missing items when the food came out. No wonder you have to pay for your meal before hand because I wouldn’t have paid after. The place was so dirty and the floor sticky and slippery it was a health hazard, high chair dirty top to bottom. The chef wore no gloves and forever saw batter all over his fingers, staff eating when our food wasn’t all out and just sitting there waiting to come. I won’t be back, and I’m very disappointed. Up your game guys because you have really...
Read moreWent to Southend for a day out property hunting, came to the end of the day and really fancied decent fish and chips - if it can't be decent at a seaside town, then things don't look good. However, Neptunes is brilliant - haddock and chips twice, battered sausage and chips for a hungry 11 year old, drinks and bits and bobs to take away came to around £34, a fair price for what it was. Ample chips, freshly cooked fish and not overly greasy. We live in London but I'm from a seaside town in Devon originally, so I know decent fish and chips when I taste it (thank you Torbay and a place in Crediton that I can never remember the name of). However, London fish and chips is expensive, overly greasy and usually comes with poorly cooked chips.
A big thumbs up for Neptunes - the next time I fancy a decent fish and chip meal, I'm honestly tempted to make the hour and three quarters drive to Southend just for this (plus to no doubt waste a few quid in the arcades and have a wander along the pier...
