The Blackbird, is a well known, loved and tested local in Ponteland, Northumberland just outside of Newcastle. Always very hospitable with a collection of real ales, lagers wines and spirits. Judging from the blackboard, if you are a gin lover, this place would be right up your street! Good seating areas outside, with private parking ( you have to enter your vehicle's registration number into the machine inside the pub). The food features a good assortment for all tastes. 8th July 2024 It's now a few years since my first review of the Blackbird, but having been there last night for dinner I feel compelled to update the last review. STUNNING! It is great being back in the Newcastle area, on a short visit from home in Spain. And any visit to this area has to include the Blackbird on your itinerary. Being a traditionalist, I am always happy to find outlets who provide cask beers, and their bitter is one of the best, up there with Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Kept perfectly, poured with passion! A great pint. Their menu is full of creative dishes, and to be fair, difficult to choose from, such are the mouthwatering offers. We settled on lamb rump. We have just come off a French run ferry, on which, for dinner, we had roast lamb. Supposedly, the French know what they are doing when it comes to cuisine, but sadly, they got the lamb all terribly wrong. So you when this dish of perfectly cooked rump lamb arrived, served with mashed potatoes, peas and spinach, accompanied by mint sauce, my heart sang! Just a word about the presentation. Something we maybe take for granted, but when the establishment obviously pays such detailed attention to the presentation, it raises the stakes in terms of what you expect the food to taste like. And we were not disappointed! Served on a warmed plate, this tender lamb rump, medium dark pink in the middle, lightening towards the roasted edges - was perfection. Service both at the bar and from the staff in waiting is excellent, attentive and friendly. No wine with this meal, but next time we should attend to that lapse! Very fairly priced for quality that you won't find very often.

Usually a lovely Christmas Eve dinner with family. Staff were also kind enough to find us a table even though we had managed to miss the requirement of a deposit (my bad!). Dining room was lovely and a great atmosphere; food was on the whole very nice apart from my partners meal. We never send food back but the pheasant she ordered was still raw in the middle which isn’t a problem as I know it is difficult to get pink. However, upon receiving it again it was still very raw in the centre; we were slightly embarrassed at this point so decided to mention it at the end. The manager said he would sort something out for us when we pointed it out but we never received anything once getting the bill other than a very unapologetic attitude for something that cost >Ā£20. I expected some form of compensation and I’m not a massive moaner at restaurants as I know staff are under pressure at busy times, this experience made me wonder if I should be in future…. Won’t be coming back again for Xmas Eve despite being here last 4 years. Definitely would recommend for a drink though!

Hi Everyone . Visited the black bird pub on 8th May at 3pm for Sundayunch only and desserts and starters. ( birthday meal with my husband after recovering from breast šŸŽ€cancer) Was in the tent ( undercover) General manage ( Tall guy with white shirt and dark jeans on or maybe trousers) showed us to the 1st table which was a high bar square table with round high bar stools ( too high for me with joint leg problem's from chemotherapy and 30 rounds of Radiotherapy side effects I call it) Tried it and i was slipping off the stool. ) Asked general manager for a other table with a back on the chair which he sorted out and both happy with. Drinks / food menu came from 2 lovely girl server's ( well done very good customer experience service so good by 1 of them I felt I needed to leave a tip afterwards which me and my husband wasn't.t going to do!!!) Ordered food and drinks . Drinks came barcardi and cokes and Bulman bottle of cider for husband the driver for the day!!! Lol. 1 x topside of beef and 1x leg of leg @ Ā£13.95p each also 2 sides ordered to go with them pigs in blankets Ā£3.50p and side of cauliflower cheese @ Ā£.3.00p Food came 10minutes after Drinks . Looked šŸ˜ lovely . Husband Vegetables was like warm beef dry no gravy over it and tastless and like cardboard!!!!. My leg of lamb was very fatty and meat full of gristle parsnips cold as well as mash lump and turnip / swede was cold . Informed 1 of the girl servers who took it back to the kitchen and chief replaced a fresh one it came back warm / like warm and swimming in gravy !!!! ( that was piping hot.) asked for more drinks and didn.t come until husband asked for them 15mintes later Server came over again and Asked if 2nd lamb OK which I said no and left most of it. Asked if wanted desserts and coffees replied no JUST The BILL. Total cost for 2x mains and sides with 2x barcardi and cokes and 1 x cider. Total bill Ā£50.60p For what I called wasted very poor food. Never returning lots of good / bad reviews on there website and general manager/chiefs rude comments as replys. Need a lesson in customer Service. If that s the food served to ponteland and Darras customers the pub can keep it . I wished I had made a donation to breast Cancer UK. A very unhappy customer. Ps. Phoned to pass on feedback speak to deputy supervisor. Said silly things like chief blames the meat supplier. Suggested a ring cover over the top of the meals Coming from kitchen on tray via kitchen she told me they have looked into them too expensive to buy and can.t get them forever or money. Called me madden and Said to her please address me by my title or MRS!!!! A pet hartt of mine . No sorry words us and finally she put the phone down on me at the end of the call at approx 11am today 10/05/2021 my...

Not a nice experience today. Went for Sunday lunch, swarmed by numerous wasps. We had to get up from table as they were all around us. They landed on our food, crawling on our Yorkshire puddings and meat etc also on the straws of our drinks. There were at least 6 or 7 wasps at our table. When we got staff to come they tried to spray the wasps (to little effect). They sprayed right over our food.

The huge disappointment came when we said that we just wanted to leave and that we'd pay for our drinks but not food as we wouldn't continue eating after so many wasps had crawled around all over our food.

The manager told us "Well it's not our fault about the wasps, you should expect wasps when it's hot" we pointed out that perhaps it would be fair to expect some wasps if sitting outside but certainly we don't expect up to 7 wasps at our table inside! He replied " It's out of our control, I don't know what you really expect us to do". He was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional with us.

We payed for our drinks and left and went elsewhere.

Perhaps they have a wasps nest somewhere. Shouldn't really have customers swarmed by wasps inside the pub and then to be spoken too unprofessionally by the manager is extremely disappointing.

Ā£10 for just two soft drinks!

Most likely won't be back.

Edit: Reply shows how extremely childish the owner of this pub is. Looking at previous numerous poor scores it seems to be a pattern that the 'owner' throws his toys out of the pram when confronted with justified and factual negative feedback. I'm assuming perhaps written by the 'manager' who...
