Beware of Food Poisoning! I'm local and invited my Brother-in-Law to Ponteland for a few drinks on Sunday 18th February. What a mistake that turned out to be!! We both ended up in YOLO at around 6pm and decided to have a bite to eat....namely a chicken and steak sharing platter with flat bread and dips plus a pepperoni pizza. We hadn't shared any other food or eaten anything else apart from this, yet coincidentally on the morning of Tuesday 20th February we were both struck down with severe diarrhoea, sickness, fever and crippling aches and pains - for 3 days!! The sad part of this is that my wife and I had arranged childcare for a short break away but unfortunately we had to postpone our trip at extra expense. Of course I felt horrifically guilty at causing my Bother-in-law such huge discomfort, but my feelings quickly turned to immense anger when my wife and I couldn't make our trip as planned :-( You may ask if there's any good to come from this story?? Well, the answer is kinda yes and no..... Yes, eventually we did manage to make our trip and we had a pretty good time despite a few lingering stomach pains! Yes, the pain from this bout of food poisoning (only the 2nd in my 40 year life) was far less severe than the 1st (Campylobacter), and yes life does go on and many worse things do happen at sea.... However, on the opposite side of the coin I now have to question myself over literally every single decision made when eating out, and being local it's gonna be really hard to avoid YOLO's for as long as we reside here. BUT, rest assured we WILL avoid YOLO and their offer of a £25 gift voucher is hugely rejected. In summary my suggestion is if you do find yourself at YOLO then stick to the drink. Oh, and check the cleanliness of...
Read moreDefinitely a marmite bar.I can see why some will like, while others will loathe. Some of the clientele as mentioned in other reviews, can be quite pretentious and rather aloof.Personally that doesn't bother me as I'm sure they will think common old me is quite the opposite. Not the cheapest bar you will visit, but you'd expect slightly higher than average prices when drinking in Ponteland. All said, the beer is decent and cocktails are 2-4-1 on a Friday night.Go visit and decide for yourself if you're a marmite lover,or hater.
Update 20.12.24
We've just been in tonight, and although most of my positives still remain, I think the prices are way out. I got a pint of Cruzcampo and a French martini for the other half, £14.40 seems way excessive for 2 drinks. I can only assume the pricing is aimed at 2-4 -1 cocktails because to get just one cocktail for £9.50 seems steep. If the 2-4-1 offer is off, then the prices should reflect that. Maybe the server was unaware of the offer?? I will definitely be...
Read moreFriday night had a good DJ bar was over busy, hard to get served. Bar person apologies served in order of customers, 241 on cocktails good value. Establishment looks after female drinkers welfare making it a safe venue. Outside seating area nice to sit outside when sunny, also private room upstairs for functions.
Food disappointing. Two pizza for £10 are like the cheapest frozen ones you can buy. Worse I've tried advised ver disappointed. My chicken kebab taste good, but too small for main course. While the wraps tuff as old boots. Salad 🥗 was nice but with very hot chillies so be careful. Extra salad and kebab or rice would have Improved the quality of the dish. Bar More local Largers and better choice of hand pulled real ales/beers. Recommend the wraps if eating or just better off sticking to drinks. Overall nice place to...
