Ponteland Tandoori — Restaurant in England

I think by Newcastle standards this is a good restaurant looking at all the other reviews but this place was very very bland.

It's like the further up north you go in the UK people's tolerance of spice gets dulled out and restaurants cook with less spice and Indian flare.

I spoke to the waiter in Bengali and he responded in Bengali but he was so embarrassed to speak Bengali like he was ashamed of his culture and background. I hope next time he will embrace who he is. There's no hiding you are not white English just embrace the diversity and don't be ashamed of your culture. It made me sad that he was so awkward about speaking bengali but I continued to speak bengali just to make things more awkward.

Food was terrible meat was so rough and chewy, I'm questioning if it was halal or not as I can taste the difference and tell by texture when an animal suffers stress and strain before execution the meat I had with my lamb curry was very chewy and rubbery and tough. Either it was old meat or non halal meat. Food presentation and service was very fast and looked good.

Overall we enjoyed the evening. The atmosphere was a 'tad' quiet/flat considering it was a Friday evening. Service was good but we had to wait a little bit too long in between courses. Naan breads were authentically fresh, rice cooked well and dishes presented well. No table water was offered. One of the four main curry dishes was 'extremely' sweet and could not be eaten. - An alternative was offered and declined yet price of dish was not deducted from bill. When we asked for the cost of the dish to be removed (as it wasn't eaten) we received an unenthusiastic response yet the cost was ultimately taken off. Would we visit again? Although we live local we probably wouldn't chose to visit again as we were underwhelmed, although this is largely because Indian food isn't our No. 1...

I went at a busy time of year so maybe it could rate higher on a different occasion. They placed us in a little corner at the back of the restaurant. Felt like we were a little forgotten about.
