We’ve been in the UK for a few days now, and as always, it’s of the absolute importance that we get our curry fix (given the less then stellar Indian food in Berlin). As such, this is now Indian curry number 3… Simply put, 5/5 in all areas. The atmosphere, fantastic. Lovely location by the river with a nice overlooking view, and a well decorated interior. Service is also bang on. The waiters are super attentive, friendly, and surprisingly quick (supported by their excellent chefs) at bringing the food out. Granted, it was a Monday night and then restaurant was relatively empty so YMMV on a busier evening. Now to the star of the show, the food… Bloody gurjussssss. Poppadoms arrived promptly along with the chutney tray, accompanied, by special request, with a side of chili pickle and Mr Naga sauce (give it a go if you’re feeling brave/insane). Not a single floppy pop…. Great crisp and just the right amount of oil. If I had to say.. perhaps the onion chutney could have been a touch fresher but this is really nitpicking. Pops 8.5/10. Starters, bahjis and tandoori chicken leg, again were fantastic. The bahji (essentially a cricket ball size deep fried portion of golden onion goodness) was cooked to perfection inside and out. No soggy/wet areas whilst also not getting too dry (a tough one to master). Chicken… great marinade and a lovely char flavour went hand in hand with the succulent meat. Only problem here is making sure you’ve still got room left for the main course…. We did. Starts 9/10 Main courses were lamb tikka naga, chicken tikka garlic chicken, chicken tikks shashlik (with korma sauce), and… some thin like a reshla? Can’t fully remember the last one. There was a perfect gravy consistency across all of our curries and the flavours and heat were very well balanced. The Naga, was amazing! Sure, it was hot, but it wasn’t crazy like it can be. Garlic chicken, lovely, even the korma was great. Cheeky little combo is the naga sauce mixed with a little bit of the Korma (probably a blasphemous event for true Indian food connoisseurs but a tasty one nonetheless. The Reshla (or whatever it was) wasn’t really for me but my brother was certainly happy with it. I was about to write that perhaps a little more lamb tikka in the naga would have been nice. To be fair though, factored in with the rest of the food, it was actually the perfect portion. I will say, I have had better Naans. I’m personally more of a fan of the traditional style bread, slightly larger, with a little more char/bubbles. Mains 9/10. All in all, and washed down with a few cobras, it was brilliant! If you’re in Northwich, and love Indian food, definitely give the BQ a shot. Note - got very drunk afterwards and woke up with an inevitable hangover, hence the long review 😀

Terrible service but food was good as always. Should’ve ordered the takeaway to avoid the terrible service and get 20% off while I’m at it. Waited nearly an hour for food with no explanation and when asked, the waiter responded “well it doesn’t look busy in the restaurant but the kitchen is busy with takeaway orders”. An apology to their obvious mistake for forgetting our order would’ve been acceptable but the none apologetic attitude with constant talk back from someone who’s supposed to be delivering customer service was appalling. It just shows the poor restaurant management if they can’t provide table service due to prioritising takeaway orders (but it was so obvious that they forgot our order from the facial expressions on other staff). I was patient the whole time even when they gave me a dirty plate to eat from but was extremely upset after receiving the bill and that same staff looking at us and completely ignored when we wanted the card machine, never mind offering any discount. After a few attempts on getting his attention, he came over with the card machine, did not speak or smile at us, just walked away with a horrible attitude while yanking the receipt tray past my face. Used to regularly dine here, will no longer recommend this place to friends or family.

We went for a family meal this evening and were really excited my Mum having been poorly recently and needing a treat. The restaurant is lovely, really nice setting and a great view. We were seated at a nice table overlooking the water. The waiter to be honest was a little abrupt, an example of this was whilst he was taking our order another waiter came along with a drink we hadn’t ordered I said “sorry that’s not ours” the other waiter interjecting sharply and said “Can you focus on what I’m saying please” I was quite taken aback by this the poppadoms and pakoras were really nice the vegetable platter samosa and Bhaji dry the paneer side was nice. My mother three times asked the waiter if the prawns in the dish she was to order were tandoori prawns and after the third time you could see he was abruptly and in a quite irritated tone suggesting they were. We waited a long time for mains which left us only 25 minutes to eat them before we were expected to leave the table when the mains arrived they were nice, no more no less just standard curry maybe not befitting the surroundings in which they were served. I found the dry ice thing a bit weird, not the spectacle they were trying to create …. just a bit …. odd …. the prawns were not tandoori and whilst the waiter was apologetic it was too little too late and made the misinformation abruptly delivered even more annoying. We certainly wasn’t going to send the dish back, we couldn’t spare the time! (Not sure we would have been allowed the time either) My Dad enjoyed his steak (not an Indian food guy) and said it was really nice but we felt put upon to leave, waiters were hovering around our table desperate for us to leave to give the table to someone else, only ten minutes past our time having barely eaten our mains not going to happen guys! you have to get the food out quicker! My wife found two hairs in her main and there were waiters chewing gum etc, the service definitely needs work whether they like the review or not. Food was ok no different to any other Indian dry ice or no, the surroundings really lovely, service needs a lot of work, unlikely to go back unfortunately. Whilst it’s busy now and staff are working hard overbooking and cutting corners on service means it won’t stay busy for long! Hope you take this criticism constructively...
