In terms of quality, value and atmosphere, this is by far our favourite restaurant in Northumberland. The food is always excellent - we have visited 4 times now and the food has been perfect every time - the scallops are especially good. The staff are so accommodating and friendly, we’ve been served by Millie mostly and she can’t do enough. I’d particularly like to highlight the fact that we mentioned that the brand of water being used contained fluoride and there were better options available; the next time we visited they had actually changed the water to the brand we suggested! We couldn’t believe it, that small touch really made us feel at home and we are so appreciative (usually because we have had the odd look for pointing those sort of things out). In summary, this restaurant is 10 out of 10 and we can’t wait to go back.

I finally found a place that does amazing food and at a reasonable price Driving from York was worth the effort. I wish there was somewhere nearer that was close to this level of dining, but nowhere in York comes close. The escargot was cooked just right, the main meal was better than expected, I had the absolute best espresso martini I've ever had, and the molten chocolate cake was the right temperature. The only reason this was not a five star experience is because our servers forgot about us several times during our dining experience to chat to other patrons they seemed to know. They also forgot to bring small requested items, such as an extra fork, butter for the bread, and still water. Food was 5 stars. Service was 3.5 stars. 100% would return for the food.

Food cooked to perfection 10/10 Espresso Martini 11/10 service 10/10 we love a window seat however we had to request upon arrival as table allocated was too small and felt crammed I could hear next tables full blown conversation the room felt on the cool side the only thing missing was back ground French music I could hear it playing in room adjacent overall a pleasant experience for our first visit on the pricey side for portion sizes but food was good highly recommended for that special occasion. £93 a service charge of £8 on top.

We booked this restaurant for Mother’s Day as this is somewhere my mum has been wanting to try for a long time. Unfortunately we left very disappointed due to the service we received. Upon arrival we did not get given menus straight away. Staff were visibly unimpressed we didn’t order alcoholic drinks which then led to slow service for our drinks order. After ordering, our food came out before drinks had arrived for all of us. We had to reorder one of our drinks which was forgotten. We ordered two extra sides which arrived once 3 of our 4 guests had already finished their mains. Staff were then off hand when we said we no longer wanted the sides, as we didn’t have any food to eat them with. No one came back to see how our food was during our meal, so couldn’t ask for these any sooner as we couldn’t get anyone’s attention. For these reasons, we felt the discretionary service charge was not deserved, so asked for it to be removed and the attitude of who I presume was the manager was extremely rude and didn’t say anything after this, and my mum saw him pulling a face and making comments to other members of staff when walking away. No one thanked us for dining with them when we left, in fact we received no acknowledgment despite spending almost £150.

All round disappointing after looking forward to coming for so long. Sadly, despite the lovely tasting food, the service has left a sour taste in our mouths and we won’t...

From a promising start -seated on the First Floor and open view -it was a declining experience Service -we sat before a table adjacent -we were a couple -the adjacent table c5 -we waited a long time to get our initial drinks -water -whilst the adjacent table were served champagne --and that was a disaster -the cork smashed a glass -and could easily have injured/blinded a customer I suggested to my partner well give it 5 mins and we are leaving Finally got our water Starter/Main orders taken -I specifically asked about the quality of the Rib Eye steak ref TASTE and was advised it was the best-so I ordered it Scallops -£15 starter --came --3 scallops medium size and overcooked Steak arrived -looked OK but TASTELESS -advised the waiter -and to his credit he offered a replacement choice -but I was half way into my meal and declined Bill £100 --inc £9.20 discretionary service --I declined due to the misinformation /advice given ref the Steak CONCLUSION Bouchon trades on its ''French' experience --I'm afraid it is nothing more than a pretentious mediocre...

Disappointing

We had lunch at Bouchon several years ago and were very impressed, so were looking forward to going back. What a let down. First of all we were "greeted" by the arrogant French manager whose main aim seemed to be to try to make us feel as inferior as possible. Then the food - well, we both ordered salmon mousse which was ok. We then had steak frites which we did not like at all. The quality of the steak was poor and had been bashed about, presumably to try and tenderise it. It was smothered in some kind of onion and wine sauce, not particularly appetising. The presentation of the dish was dreadful - all just dumped on the plate. For dessert I had tarte aux pommes, which was a circlet of very dry pastry with a bit of squashed apple in the middle and a dollop of creme fraiche. My husband had the chocolate mousse, which was nothing special. Well we thought, at least the coffee is bound to be good! It was not. The whole experience was so vastly different from our first visit. Needless to say we...
