Really sad to be leaving a poor review, as I have never felt the need to before, and the food here is beautiful. Customer service, however, was very poor and dangerous.
Visited with a friend with a peanut allergy. Advised at the time of booking, and when choosing from the menu. Discussed all food choices with the waitress to ensure no peanuts, making her fully aware that a friend had an allergy.
Food was delicious, but peanuts discovered in one of the dishes we had been advised was nut free.
Fortunately, my friend didn't have a serious reaction, but this could have been very different. Rather than check my friend was ok, the waitress initially denied peanuts were in the dish. After repeatedly asking her to check with the chef she did, and came back and confirmed it was her mistake. She then however proceeded to say we shouldn't order food without knowing what we were ordering (despite the fact we had specifically checked the dish with her).
She went on to suggest that 'us people' and 'our group' had been in previously, complaining about the food, the drinks etc, as though we were making things up.
This was completely not true and despite trying to understand what she meant, she became very rude and continued to appear to blame us for the mistake she had made. She told us the chef had shouted at her, and accused us of doing the same (we had not, but just tried to get her to understand how serious the situation could have been).
She made us feel incredibly uncomfortable, and the whole situation was embarrassing and surreal. I completely accept she was probably embarrassed by it too, but she handled it poorly. She continued to make comments about us (in front of other diners) accusing us of doing this before. We had never eaten together in this restaurant, and i had not eaten here for around 10 years! In the end, I had to walk out as I was unwilling to be treated so badly.
A real shame as the food was really good, but I could not face eating somewhere like this again where a customers safety is clearly not a priority, and the customer service is seriously lacking.
There was a lack of training on how to handle allergies, with no information being passed to the chef, and no real understanding of why it is important.
Would recommend if you have no allergy and are fully aware of what...
Read moreFood was just alright. We have ordered Thai Fish cake (Tod Mun Pla): absolutely delicious. No complaints for this one. Fried Prawn in Tamarind sauce (Gung Ma Kham): this one is also nice and no complaints. Recommended to try it. Grilled Beef in Spicy sauce (Yum Nue Yang): the meat was very hard and dry. The sauce was very strong mint taste and smell which is not really enjoyable for someone who does not like mint at all. Fried Fish in red curry sauce (Pla Rad Prik): this one is alright for me, but also still smell mint which it was supposed not and my friend said she can tasted ginger which was also supposed not to be in there. Tom Yum Gung soup with prawns: this one was the worst because the first thing i can tasted was MINT and real tom yum gung doesn’t suppose to taste Mint at all. Therefore, it was not tasted like real tom yum and there was not any other components like lemongrass and others.
We went for dinner with a group of 3 people. We arrived at the restaurant around 6 pm because i called to ask staff there about what time the restaurant open and she said 6pm ( but it’s actually open at 5.30pm ). We turned up there just the right time before all the tables are booked up.
The restaurant is a bit small.
The waitress was unfriendly and looked unhappy for somehow which pretty much ruin...
Read moreAs any Salopian tends to know, there was an incident recently in the attics above Shrewsbury Town Library. It transpires that Ammutseba, "The Devourer of Stars", had broken into our reality by disguising itself as some damp that had virulently made its way into the pages of several dozen old Wilbur Smith large prints and an unopened box of A5 piano lessons flyers.
Ammutseba, with murderous designs to obliterate our world, burning at the centre of its non-heart, descended the side of the library and out onto Castle Gates, where it was run over by a Go Carz cab on its way to Old Potts Way from Coton Hill.
As Ammutseba's compromised corporeal form swiftly rotted to a gruesome death (it had not taken into account the limitations of carbon-based matter and also the brutal driving styles of a late-night cabbie in Shrewsbury town), the Devourer of Stars briefly transmogrified into its native, utterly nightmarish shape, before disappearing and leaving our reality in peace once again.
All of this was visible from the large windows of Castle Thai, which offers the diner a truly top class downtown Shrewsbury dining experience, along with its great quality food, decent prices and friendly,...
