Arrived to my home from home, bosvegas, as a representative being away for 5 years, I"ll tell you my experience; Spoke to my cousin Kevin, (best bar man in Bournemouth) serving us, I made jokes around my friend having a pint glass of coke with vodka. (Enter unfriendly girl and friendly girl) "That is illegal" is what unfriendly girl said, Seemed all banter ( for shadowing ) Two drinks later "the bouncers have said you are too drunk to serve.". Later to be found out as a lie, unless Dan (bouncer) lied to me. I continued to dance and have a good time, encouraging others to dance not being either aggressive or being problematic ie drunk. . I kept on thumbs upping the bouncers when I saw them and told them they were doing a good job. One on the stairs ( after I thumbed up ) flipped the bird at me, middle finger straight raw at me, no hate from me I don't know the dude but felt "uh oh" I continued to dance without buying drinks ( wasn't here to get drunk anyway ) but people felt bad for me and I was given a drink. (End of a glass that has a a double vodka and coke) a bouncer then escorted me out, I asked for their name, not for shade he was not mean but can't remember, ( maybe Justin ) told me the bar staff had told him/they/them I was refused alcohol and someone gave me one so that was enough to escort me off the premises. Amicable and without anger or malice I left the bar but told Dan I will leave a negative review.( He said they would have a discussion about the night ) please cc me with that discussion. Obviously you can't make public but id like to know the reason I was...
Read moreWell what a disappointment. We came to Chaplin's in Boscombe with the assurance that this was the place to be. Having tried to go in on several occasions despite our hotel telling us it was dog friendly, the staff were rude and abrupt and extremely unhelpful. The place was devoid of atmosphere and quite frankly, people were just rattling around. You would think they would be welcoming out of towners into the venue to at least add some bums on seats but no. Why the difference between a dog being there at seven and then not allowed after seven? I just don't understand. What did I think it's going to happen? The dog will drink too much and cause a riot? Even kids allowed until 9 o'clock. Bloody hell. Apparently, it is because it gets busy but from our own experience and from talking to other local people that clearly is not the case so it is just a jobsworth ridiculous rule applied for the sake of bureaucracy . We went to the Italian restaurant opposite instead who are also not dog friendly, they said they would make an exception as our dog was well-behaved and the restaurant was quiet. It is all about common sense surely? It makes no sense. We were so looking forward to coming to this place and I will now be telling anyone who asks me not to bother. What a waste of time and an example of the narrowmindedness that I had been assured was no longer present in this...
Read moreChaplin's is our favourite place in Bournemouth for a drink! The staff are helpful, polite and friendly, always welcoming guests with a smile. The crowd is kinda alternative and never feels aggressive or rowdy like regular pubs. People are often happy to strike up a conversation with others in the beer garden and it's just good vibes all round.
The super quirky, carefully curated decor is Chaplin-themed throughout, and adds to this establishment's warm, playful vibe, and shows that the whole place is a labour of love for its proprietors.
The Cellar Bar downstairs is also a great place for later in the evening, having regular live, local music acts and a great selection of drinks!
We have only eaten in the restaurant once about 6 months ago, where the food was a little underwhelming. However, the service was excellent and we'd be willing to give it another go soon.
(Update: we've eaten in the restaurant twice recently, and the food was fantastic both times!)
As members of the LGBTQ+ community, we feel completely comfortable and relaxed at this venue - something that is very difficult to find in most British pubs and bars that aren't specifically gay bars. Overall, a big thank you to the Chaplin's team for making this an awesome place to...
